A drug from Amgen
could give patients with a notoriously aggressive form of lung cancer significantly more time to live when added to an immunotherapy from AstraZeneca
, a study found.
Full results from a late-stage trial released Saturday show that adding Amgen’s immunotherapy Imdelltra to AstraZeneca’s Imfinzi drug slashed the risk of death by 58% in patients with extensive-stage small cell lung cancer, a fast-growing disease that has spread beyond the lung where it began.
The drug combination extended their median overall survival to 21.1 months compared with 12.7 months with AstraZeneca’s drug alone, the trial found.

So maybe $100k in drugs for an extra 9 months of life.

Yeah, let's be suspicious of modern medicine, not use drugs and pray that God will heal us like Jehova's witnesses.

So do you smoke it or do you snort it?

Bet your arse if he is diagnosed with small cell lung cancer, he will be asking about this cocktail.

I don’t know much about oncology but this sounds like a significant advancement.
I know my grandmother died of small cell lung cancer and it’s a horrible disease.

My dad died a miserable death from small cell lung cancer. You wouldn’t be so glib if you had any life experience.

The twisted part of these companies is extending life (so they stay on the medication) instead of curing it (which will lose then money). Healthy patients don't need medicine.

Extending life by what will probably be a miserable and painful 9 months is not reducing the risk of death. It's just slowing it down.

To some people that 9 months means seeing their kid get married, the birth of a grandchild, etc.
And this is the first step. I expect more to come. Some cancers, even if not curable can be held at bay for years and sometimes indefinitely now.

Reject it.
Don't be a candyass.
And more importantly, tell your wife and kids (haha) not to take it either.

You're more dumb than I thought you were, so congrats, I guess.

It's still not cutting the risk of death which is what the headline claims. The article claims it only extends life by a median of 9 mos. Maybe I have a distorted notion of what cutting the risk of death means.
