to start stocking up on canned goods
No lies, I restocked my paper towel and toilet paper stashes. The time to do it is now. Not getting caught in the frenzy like last time

The first case of human to human transmission that occurs off the cruise ship
When the ship sailed into Port Canaveral this morning, it passed within 1000 ft of my condo complex - pretty sure my water supply and HVAC are contaminated and expecting to see my neighbors' bodies in the parking lot by lunch - oh well, it's been a good run.....

I’ll start worrying when the meat wagon comes around daily.

We still have time to come up with a vaccine that does nothing.

The only part of the article that gave me pause

Don't know why you are getting downvotes for that. An asymptomatic spreader would be a problem. That would put a worry on the Americans who left the cruise ship before Hanta was identified.
I am not worried about spread from the 17 quarantined in Nebraska.

Surprised NY doesn’t have higher numbers. I’m sure there are plenty of rats in NYC. Any large city, really. Edited to add, French Quarter, too.

I'm not worried that this becomes a big, widespread deal but having H2H transmission + asymptomatic positives will make it worse than your typical outbreak of this type of virus. It still kills far too many, too quickly to be anything like a Covid 19.

how is that a dunk on pride, exactly?

A this time, it is only believed that symptomatic transmission occurs during a small window (24-48 hours) when the infected begins running fever. Asymptomatic transmission would seem highly unlikely with such a small window for symptomatic transmission.

It's not. I would bet this is the first time asymptomatic persons have been tested. Asymptomatic positive does not mean asymptomatic transmission.

Right.
And isn't there like 1-4 week asymptomatic period before symptoms?
It seems like a good thing that we are catching people before they become symptomatic, no?

Correct. It can be as much as 40 days. These 17 will quarantine for 40 days, including the time on the they were quarantined on the ship.
