America spends a lot more money on k-12 education than comparable countries

It’s more about how we use the funding I think. I have an office in Denmark and they have to learn three languages by the time the graduate. Learn, as in, they only teach certain grades in the languages (German, English, and Danish).

If $12k is the avg per pupil, I'd like to know the variance from school to school. How much is spent per student in a good school district vs a bad one? Why do we have some title 1 underfunded schools? Why are teachers paying for school supplies out of pocket? Crazy to think of the inefficiencies here if that's what we're spending.

I'm totally uninformed on this topic. Just seems the reality is BOTH that we spend a lot per student AND many schools aren't well funded/provide poor quality of education.

Utah gets a hell of a bang for their buck.

Waste in education spending is beyond ridiculous.

Most of the issues that plague public education cannot be fixed with money.

one quick observation is that principles and superintendents are grossly overpaid considering their education level and resumes.

not only are teachers underpaid but they are often required to buy their own supplies nowadays, which seems unfair

Are they counting transportation costs? That has to be much higher in the US.

Also, how do other countries handle students with disabilities? Paying a sign language interpreter for one student can drive up a district's per pupil cost. Just an example - not saying it's a waste by any means.

Holy frick they rotate out computers ever two years. Every class. iPads, promethium boards, the works.

Most elementary classes here don't use the shite. To damn time consuming. My wife's 7th grade class when she taught never used them. How are you supposed to use 3 computers in a class for 36 kids? They'd keep bringing them even though she said no. There is a computer class for all that. They still came. Every two years.

That and the cost of curriculum. Calcasieu Parish school board is hemorrhaging money changing shite out that doesn't work.ets try another one! No books to take home and their latest is paid tier. You get the first level of shite but you have to keep buying into packages to "unlock" others.

That and you get zero books and have to run copies of everything. How much more does that cost?? I was having to buy ink for her class. I spent a grand a year in supplies she couldn't get.

A fricking scam it's become. Not unlike college. Revolving door of money.

And I love education. My mother was a teacher. My sister is. My brother is a dedicated fantastic educator who give enormous fricks. My wife was. I wanted to be.

A free education is damn important for society. It's been hijacked.

But we’re more smarter.
