That and a lot of companies do this to shed employees without having to pay severance. They know a lot of folks will find a wfh opportunity elsewhere.

Straight WFH is not ideal for most professions, but 40+ hours in an office 5 days a week is also not particularly necessary as well.
you are being disingenuous if you dont agree with this.

IMO you should be in the office unless you have a reason you shouldnt be, kids home, A/c guy there, etc. But you should be given the allowance to WFH if necessary.

A lot of these companies are doing this to get employees to quit. It’s cheaper than layoffs. I know it sounds like an absurd way to cut workforce since the first ones out the door will be the highest performers, who by default have the most opportunities. Once the leverage again rests with the job seekers, companies will allow remote again.

There is goods and bads to it.

I think being required to be in an office chair 40 hours a week is BS and not actually gonna increase work being done.

I also think work from home is complete BS.

There is a happy median and plenty of companies operate that way

If Amazon is laying off and many other tech is laying off, where are all these laid off people going to work from home for?

I cannot imagine anything other than WFH for me. The benefits and freedom are endless. Hell naw to the office. Good luck with that.

He is right that it’s not what the higher ups think it is.

Not to say there isn’t something to this. If you have bad leadership it’s bad in office or not. If you have low quality workers they are that way in office or not.

I like a hybrid and think a hybrid works best, it rewards those that can self motivate and it also gives some structure to the new people.

You can’t bring in new staff make them come in and all leadership be remote.

Also while yes every c level started at the early parts and worked up as you move up you easily forget a lot of shite or romanticize the office.

Completely agree. For me, having two days in the office is super nice. Don't feel restless working from home five days a week (although tons of people don't feel that way). Even if we went to three days a week, that's fine with me.

I just think five days a week is unnecessary and builds resentment amongst workers who are twiddling their thumbs at their desks as opposed to doing the laundry or making lunch.

I've always felt productivity should be what's most important, not that your butt is in your desk seat from the second work begins until when it ends. I remember when I started my first full-time job that was something that was really hard to wrap my mind around. "Why do I need to stay until 4:30 and stare at the wall if my meetings are done for the day, if my emails are answered, and if all of my work is done?"

I think the bottom line is office real estate is expensive, but companies are using "office culture" as a more socially acceptable way of explaining it to folks.

Because you don’t sound very necessary. Don’t need to work past 4? Don’t have work all 5 days of the week? Huge times of work with nothing to do?

That’s poor management. Certainly sounds like you should be helping the company by being more productive and your supervisor isn’t giving you enough tasks.

Who doesn’t want to work 25 hours a week as a wfh? Everybody…..

I guess I don’t understand why the majority of you are so anti WFH when it doesn’t affect you at all. I have been working from home full time for over a year and get more done than I ever would in the office. There are times I miss going into the office but not very often..

My company does 1 day WFH. I'd prefer 2 personally, but it is what it is.

We do 2 days a week, and I've found it's the perfect balance for my staff. They may not sit for 8 straight hours those 2 days, but we find they are more likely to be on after hours doing things as they have free time.

A decent portion of my bottom line gets taken out via office rent/expenses, and I still pay it and still let most of my team WFH because they are more productive.

Sitting in traffic two hours a day just to have your arse in an office for the sake of paying rent while the boss is at the ranch is the dumbest fricking thing ever.

Remember when WFH was going to revolutionize the economy and bring back middle America (I honestly see dipshits still repeat this)? Pepperidge Farm remembers.

You know why. It’s because the majority of the people who post here work menial miserable jobs where they have to be in the “office “, and they can’t stand that others are in a different position.

No one 'works' from home

There are far too many distractions, errands, appts, babysitting, etc. They get most things done in 4 days, and then count after hours emails, listening to podcasts, text messages, web searches, phone calls, etc as 'work' they did 'at home'
