Let me be clear: I fully support Amazon taking measures to ensure the safety of their drivers.
I wonder if this guy realizes he's part of the problem.

Seems like you are a hardcore racists if your initial reaction of something being done to you by someone who isn't the same color as you is to call them a racist. You just can't imagine any other scenario where what they said, could ever come out as being anything other than a racist remark. You are racist to have such thoughts.

Good. I've been looking for a reason to go off-grid for a while now.

I don’t need smart sinks and smart fridges with a tv on it and smart blinds and smart thermostats and smart locks and smart garage openers

I reviewed the footage and confirmed that no such comments had been made. Instead, the Eufy doorbell had issued an automated response: “Excuse me, can I help you?” The driver, who was walking away and wearing headphones, must have misinterpreted the message.
doesn't matter. this guy still has a mark in his record, a file with the FBI and nothing like a little silly video and audio footage is going to give him his life back.
he's going to be fricked the rest of his life in subtle and not-so-subtle ways.

Convenience will hang us all.
I loathe the fact that I have a water heater with bluetooth capabilities. I don't use it, but it is still there.

Same here. It’s quite the stress releaser to randomly scream out a racial slur.

This reminds me of a story the comedian Chad Daniels tells. He was on the road, staying in a hotel. He was born and raised in Minnesota, still lives there today, and is a huge Vikings fan.
Anyway, he was watching a game alone in his room. Things weren't going well, the Vikings were getting the shite kicked out of them. Suddenly, there's a loud knock at his door. He looks out the peep hole deal and sees two cops and a, presumably, hotel manager. He opens the door and they proceed to ask what was going on and where his significant other is.
He's confused as he is alone. He tells them that, and they ask if they can look around. He let them, and they found no one else in the room.
The story of what had happened was......he got into the game and was being loud. His hotel neighbors heard him yell, "You stupid fricking whore, get off the ground! Stop being a bitch!". They thought he was talking to a person, called the front desk, who called the police.
They all laughed and laughed.
Now, Alexa and whatever other electronic twats you think you need can be those neighbors.

How would a delivery driver know the race of the person getting the delivery if they don't see them?

Sounds like a veiled accusation of the visitor being up to no good.

The incessant "low battery" beeping of the smoke alarms inside, or lack thereof?

Nope. And he never will.
He's still seriously considering shutting it down. That should have been his first reaction after finding out what happened.

This is some wild stuff. The free markets are about to do some speaking about some of you baws. We love corporations though. They know best!

I don’t believe in a lot of “smart devices” if only because web security is an issue with a lot of them.
This reinforces my position.
