Should be locked out of his Amazon account for this

On Wednesday, May 31, 2023, I finally regained access to my Amazon account after an unexpected and unwarranted lockout that lasted nearly a week, from Thursday, May 25
the onset of Labor Day weekend was approaching,
it wasn’t until Friday afternoon that I received confirmation that the investigation had started. I was told to expect a response within two business days, meaning not until Tuesday of the following week at the earliest.
In the end, my account was unlocked on Wednesday,

Thanks for sharing, OP.
Reading through the comments, and two that stick out to me:
These types of issues, combined with the actual writer’s experience with Amazon, should really make people pause to think about where this is all going.
1. There is no such thing as anonymity. It’s a thing of the past. With all of the data tech companies have collected, they have numerous ways to identify you and tie you to past internet activity. And yeah, you can take extreme measures to hide your identity but then you’ll probably just end up on a watch list.
2. Tech companies can and will use that identifying data however they see fit. In some cases that means targeted ads, which allow companies like Google to continue offering better and better services with minimal/no costs for the users. Cool, no biggie. But that can very easily escalate to a situation where you’re being unfairly targeted, black balled, or worse based on any number of perceived “issues.”
3. Let’s take the story in the OP as an example - Amazon apparently received a report from their delivery driver of racist comments from the house. I might understand if Amazon decided to halt deliveries to that address until they assess the credibility/seriousness of those accusations. It would be a bit extreme, but I can see how they might choose that path given their recent bad PR around driver safety.
Except they didn’t just halt deliveries. They locked out the entire Amazon account, before even starting their investigation, based on nothing but an accusation. Your Prime Video subscription has absolutely nothing to do with the safety of delivery drivers. There is no credible justification for that response.
Is it that much of a stretch to imagine how, in the not-so-distant future, a company might take actions against a user because of other online activity? I think ole’ Pesticide was a POS who had no business being a cop, but I don’t think he should be blackballed from using technology because of his racist comments on TigerDroppings.
Think about how much of your life can be impacted by these four companies: Google, Amazon, Apple, and Microsoft. It’s absolutely insane that the US still hasn’t done anything to meaningfully protect users from unethical usage of their data. We’re likely at a point now where the legislature can’t do anything because the data-as-a-product business model is the house of cards holding up the entire tech sector.

I'm so black pilled on this, corporations will never take responsibility, and any attempt to make them do so will lead you to being ostracized by society for probably being transphobic, homophobic, or racist.
I thank you for sharing your story but for the common person, they should avoid cloud services whenever possible. Or if you have to try to be secure about it, lest amazon aws is going to scan your photos for cp and report you to the police when you're sending pictures of your child to a doctor.

It might be a great article idea to explore the space using this event as an analogy. A personal Reddit account was banned for a misunderstanding years ago and recently they introduced new tools to identify "linked" accounts and I found all of my accounts auto-banned immediately on participating due to a single party false accusation years ago (appeals were summarily dismissed with no apparent diligence). Now I have to go to measures to obfuscate my identity to simply participate in one of the world's larger community spaces for discussion.

How would a delivery driver know the race of the person getting the delivery if they don't see them?

A friend of mine got banned from reddit for life for saying "Clark Griswold was a scientist" during the height of the vaccine push.
He still to this day can not get in even using other email addresses and a VPN.

In some states it is now legal to burn down a house if the doorbell calls you a name.

Some studies have projected that if the Carrington Event today knocked out everything controlled by a computer chip or circuit, that our entire economic and production system would become dysfunctional resulting ultimately in a big die off.
It wouldn't affect the Amish though except when the starving hordes from the cities came to take their food.
I wonder if an evil AI might be able to have the same effect by hacking every chip that is connected.

I missed this thread when it started, but I just read a story on it. It’s more of reason both Amazon and google need to broken up. Amazon, google, and apple shutting down Parler and shutting out the sitting President of the US shows just how much power they have to push their views and politics.
In this case even though driver had no proof amazon didn’t even talk to guy first or access a video we all know they can if it’s connected to amazon echo/Alexa. Even after video submitted it almost takes a week for them to fix it. Maybe Amazon should push to educate their drivers to understand the tech they deliver.
Big Tech was given favorable laws and abilities to buy up competition due to internet not being profitable for companies at first, but that’s not the case now. Competition is what is needed. Limiting Big Tech can’t be decided by the EU while the US sits on sidelines.

Jackson noted that no one was home when the alleged comment was made. He reviewed security footage and found that his Eufy doorbell had given the driver the automated response, “Excuse me, can I help you?”
Additionally, he noticed that the driver was walking away and wearing headphones at the time and may have misheard the doorbell’s automatic reply.
Jackson sent the video evidence to Amazon, which took several days to review it. During that time, he remained locked out of his smart devices (Echo & amazon account/services as guy was self hosting some and switched some to Siri) while the company conducted an internal investigation.
Six days later, he regained access to his account, Jackson stated.

They'd be too busy killing each other and waste the resources (like gas) they physically need to get to the Amish in the first place.

Let me be clear: I fully support Amazon taking measures to ensure the safety of their drivers. However, I question why my entire smart home system had to be rendered unusable during their internal investigation
quote:When you allow a company that much control over your life...I say again, stupid son of a bitch.
This incident has led me to question my relationship with Amazon. After nearly a decade of loyalty, I’ve been given a harsh reminder that a misunderstanding can lead to such drastic measures.

Update: For those saying I’m okay with this happening to a “real racist”
"OH NO! A perpetual POC victim thought they heard somethin' racissss."
This idiot needs to sue Amazon and the double-digit IQ "victim" that was working for them. Seriously, frick these people.

Why the hell would anyone only use cloud storage? That's incredibly stupid.
I use MS Skydrive/OneDrive for backing up photos and video from my phone. It's great as an extra means of backup but no way in hell should it be a sole means of storage/backups.
As as far as being shut down because my devices pick up "racist" or "homophobic" comments, then frick off.
I pay the bill every month and it's no body's business what I was in my home (other than my families). I'll say whatever the hell I want.
