Am I the only one that was unaware that there is an anti-HIV drug available?

A little surprised I had not heard of it. Wash DC is planning on cutting the HIV infection rate by 50% by the year 2020 through usage.
Not really interested in taking it because I am not in a high risk category since your Moms appear to be pretty clean.

From what I was told it is a brutal process. I believe first responders and people in the medical field are offered it but a lot decline because the side effects are miserable. I used to work at Acadian and that’s what a paramedic told me, he could’ve just been messing with me though.

A few thoughts on it:
1) It's causing gays to engage in very risky behaviors which spreads other diseases and infections. It's protection, not prevention, yet it's being treated like a shield preventing any infections.
2) I'm generally against taking a pill if there's an alternative (i.e., safe sex practices). These meds require blood work before and while taking it to monitor liver function. So it's deemed "safe" now, but what happens if people who are taking it have a higher incidence of renal failure? Or stroke? Or certain types of cancer at some point down the line?

I know several people including family members in the medical field in various jobs and I have never heard of any of them being offered this drug. The cost of doing so would probably be astronomical, because unlike a once a year flu vaccine, you would have to continuously provide it for every employee in the hospital that comes in contact with patients.

I’m really amazed that with all the money poured into HIV that there’s not a cure for the virus yet.

In 35 years, it went from being a death sentence in four years or less to being a disease where the average life expectancy is 5-7 years below the national average. I am sure a lot of the activists who died in the 80s would be crying tears of joy for the medical breakthroughs that have occurred.
