But they do deserve it. They voted for it. They are stupid

The vast majority of victims of the fire were not celebrities. I don't wish a fire on anyone.

When in history did the ultra rich elites care about the people lower than them? What would be Bill Gates reaction if he was told your house burned down? Like George Carlin said it’s a big club and you ain’t in it.
Again, you've lumped all these people into the "ultra rich" Bill Gates level of elites. That's simply not true.

I feel bad they lost their homes, etc. but this is exactly what these people voted for. They're kind of reaping what they've sown.
The decisions of the people they've elected caused this. In my opinion this type of disaster would have been avoidable or at least mitigated with proper management.

I worry about the folks who financed the properties that lost their insurance four months ago.
When we say "If you’re worth $15 million and have $10 million of it in your uninsured house," was that house yours or yours and the banks?
The shrubbery right up to and on the buildings isn't tolerated in some districts out there; others looked the other way and ignored the danger, to their peril.
What will make us all feel sick in the future is that the only people making money off this will be the lawyers.

California has more Republicans than Louisiana.

Maybe it’s because I doubt any of these folks blinked an eye when Harvey flooded Houston or Katrina devastated NOLA or Laura mowed over Lake Charles and SW LA.
But you don't know that at all. Even in the "look at me" attitude of L.A., people do have hearts. Just because people are rich doesn't mean they're jerks.
The scenes from these neighborhoods look like the worst war zones. It's an unfathomable loss that nobody deserves.

I have sympathy but not near as much as for the people in NC. Most of the the people in NC likely lost their only home. If you can afford Palisades real estate, you probably own a second and third home elsewhere.
I wonder the percent of people who lost a home in cali that also have at least one other home elsewhere? 80% 90%?

I do feel bad for loss of life and anyone losing their home.
But you’re right. It’s hard to feel sympathy when they keep voting for these stupid Democrats.

I am feeling guilty because I should be sympathetic, but I can’t seem to muster any sympathy.
The problem is the news keep putting celebs that have lost their homes and not the one that will truly be affected. However, here's a chance for wealthy, as you imagine, to possibly relate to the commoner, and you're extending the cold heart and hand to them. That's not a message to send. Rich or poor, a person is still a person.
If anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart to him, how does the love of God abide in him?

I have empathy because I’ve been through it. The only one I am shuddering over is Billy Crystal. There had to be quite a bit of MLB history that got torched in his house.

Didn't some celebrities get pretty heavily involved with the recovery from Katrina for years? Brad Pitt comes to mind.

Hating rich people for being rich is a sign of insecurity. Billy Crystal lost his home of 49 years. I’m sure Crystal and his family are going through a hard time right now, wealthy or not.

It’s just you. Sadistic as I’m sure you’ve always been based on your OP.

I really hate this new populism.
Agreed. What's more troubling is people feel the need to tell everyone publicly that they're pieces of shite with no empathy for their fellow man. That's pretty disturbing.

Early numbers are saying more than 10k structures were damaged. Don’t think everyone is a multimillionaire

Yes, and he got repaid by lawsuits.

95% of reactionary politics is making up someone to be mad at
