Did anyone say anything to him about it? It sounds like they did, given this piece. So it's not ignorance, just plain stupidity. Not saying you can't be sympathetic, but the situation is entirely the dude's fault and now he's put his family in a worse situation than if had just been responsible.

Humans used to have a 30 year life span mostly because of mouth diseases. It was insanely easy to not be able to get just a tiny bit of something out of your gap and then it gets infected and you die.

One of my flaws is empathy. I always thought I might be an a-hole for not really caring much about other people’s problems. We all have problems, they suck, deal with it.
Then I realized most people fake empathy, and I do actually care about people in situations as you described. As a father, it’s mostly when a wife, husband, or kids are affected. They didn’t do anything to deserve that.

Dental insurance is pretty cheap though.

You are not the A-Hole. If you are struggling to find something positive to say about the situation, you can share that his experience could save someone’s life in the future.

I may be a puss but but I cant imagine just dealing with the pain of a tooth infection and not going to see a dentist about it. I had a hairline crack in one tooth that didnt even need a root canal prior to crowning and the irritation drove me nuts for a week before I got it fixed.

Modern dental care is a big part of why people live longer. Just amazing how much problems w your teeth can f you up.

I struggle to believe this story because I feel like an abscesed tooth would get so painful you wouldn't be able to function, eat, etc.
Also, instead of trying to make this about you with the thread title, just go with what the story is about...an abscesed tooth infection that spread to the brain. Because asking if you're the a-hole because some dude you never met is a retard is almost as dumb as not getting an infected tooth looked at.

they would have given him antibiotics and told hime to see dentist
