Yep. State police will assist only as requested by DOJ. He did not even mention BRPD. Lol. Nor should he. The police should not investigate themselves in such a high profile case.

from the video, it looks like one fired a taser while the other charged at the exact time, like they planned the taser/take down

No it doesn't. He's tasered long before the other cop tackles him. Listen to the video...when it's being pointed at the floorboard of the car...and you can hear the taser.

Nope. Hands first. It's stupid, but that's the teaching method.

Why do you keep assuming the cops didn't know him?

Because I don't KNOW otherwise. People keep throwing out that he was a "convicted felon selling illegal CDs and DVDs and a pedophile" when literally none of that has anything to do with whether or not the shooting was justified. That information, with respect to this story, is as useless as the MSM saying the man was black and was shot by two white cops.

Can we not call out bullshite on both sides or is only one narrative allowed to fly here?

profiled?

Rightfully so. Knowing what / who you are dealing with and their tendencies is the most important part of handling a situation as a cop. Knowledge of the person /situation you are dealing with is key.

I don't expect them to let him walk away, but if the Taser doesn't work, and you suspect he is armed, I have a hard time believing tackling him was a smart move.

Do we know how long the confrontation lasted before he tackled him? I assume the started by asking him to remain calm, drop down on the ground or put his hands on his head. IF they knew, or even had reason to believe he had a gun, and if he wasn't complying with their verbal commands (which it appears he wasn't) then attempting to tackle him to the ground and cuff him may have been the best and most reasonable course of action at the time. They got him to the ground, they just were not able to cuff him quick enough.

The alternative is to keep giving him verbal commands until he either complies, takes off running, or reaches in his pocket.

What's the uproar about? The guy could have avoided this whole situation by doing what he was told by the officers. Hopefully people will watch this and think to themselves "Cops ain't no joke". "MaybeI should do what they ask"

Jesus Christ. 99% of us agree that he should have complied, but this kind of attitude is what leads to the "comply or die" issues. People should comply because it is the law. People shouldn't comply out of fear of deadly force from an officer for being disobedient.

It's maybe safe to assume the officers knew what this guy was like. Officers have patrolling areas or "zones". BRPD usually has one cop per vehicle, but there is a second officer assigned to the same zone just in case the first responding officer needs backup. That seemed to be the case in this scenario.

I understand that.

Taking him to the ground in that fashion with the location of the gun on his body still unknown seems like an unnecessarily dangerous move. I'm not sure what SOP is in that situation, but I'd be surprised if this was it.

I disagree, that's exactly why they need to comply especially if they think you may have a gun or anything on you and you're resisting in the least bit. All it takes is maybe a second for a cop to die.

Yea, I don't think we should live in fear of the police. Protect and serve, not comply or die.

i give talks to kids and i always tell them to comply

why? being arrested, or even convicted, of a bullshite crime, is superior to death

there is a time to fight back and it is NOT when you're being arreste

I mean how often have police changed their mind once the arrest starts? "Oh he is fighting the hell out of us let's let him go." If anything being super polite but not saying anything is the way to go.

The "people don't get a fair shake in court" argument is killing people. Let's pretend that cops don't even have guns. If you do not comply guess where you are still going one way or the other...court. Complying or not complying isn't changing that. Not complying isn't going to make the police see it your way better.

I mean yea, if you have a gun on you, you better comply. But out of self interest. Not because you know those mother frickers are ruthless, like the one poster implied.
