Short form videos are the devil.

Yet people are still buying expensive concert and sport tickets, choosing to have their food delivered, gambling, countless subscriptions they barely use.
Concerts are being cancelled. Outside of the top teams, plenty of trans are struggling to sell tickets. Delivery apps are struggling.
Streaming services are a wash with prior generations cable tv

The biggest challenge I think is how antisocial and busy everyone is. That's the thing I've noticed as I've gotten older, before 2 of my best friends and I could meet up with a day or two notice. Now it's like at least a week if not 2 weeks notice to put aside time to meet up. Another one of my friends is even worse. They put stuff in their calendar on their iPhone. I feel like a lot of the time I need to give them like 2-3 weeks notice to hang out and do something.
This. I'm 42, married with two kids. I've noticed as I've gotten older that having a social life has become harder and harder. Everyone is busy, things never line up, and it becomes easier to just skip things. I've mentioned to my wife that our lives are hectic with work and kids and we're constantly on the go, but I've never felt lonelier from a friends perspective. We text and have group chats, talk sports and send dumb memes still. But actually getting together is almost impossible it seems.

quote:Relatedly, 88% of survey respondents reported having jobs and/or kids.
Even more jarring, 12% say they can’t even remember the last time they had a full free day to enjoy themselves.

This is what happens when you sit around, staring at a phone screen all day. People need to get their arse outside and do things.

Appropriate user name you have there. Congrats.

Cost and budget pressures were the most commonly cited barrier to fun overall, flagged by 57% of respondents.
I just took my family to the local aquarium. Parking and tickets for 5 people (3 under 6 years old) totaled out to nearly 300 dollars. No food, drinks or gift shop purchases.

That's no fun.

I enjoy sitting at home just watching YouTube while sipping an energy drink on a Saturday. Then I make homemade smash burgers for the wife and kids for $25 total. I wish I had time to do it every weekend.

Another thing to add would be to exercise when you are able and try to eat healthy about 80% of the time. If you’re not feeling good physically, it has a stronger tie than you might think to your overall mental state (including happiness).
Finding this to be true. Job and new fatherhood have let me allow myself to let this slide. The ill effects are noticeable and I’ve not yet figured out how to adjust.

I put a lot of this on social media. There are so many people that live online, see people posting about some trip they are on or some good fortune they have received, and think they don’t have that and feel left out.
Anybody has the freedom to go out and do something fun but won’t do it.
It takes time to figure that out but once you start doing it, your life changes.
I know this from personal experience !!

Americans are spoiled, entitled bitches. We have the easiest lives in the history of the planet and wannngh, "I'm not having enough fun." It's not that difficult.

I always intended to move to another house, but life got in the way and now it’s almost paid for. I definitely now appreciate what I have and am thankful for it and am so glad I’m not just starting out today.

First of all, congrats on the new addition.
Pre-baby my wife and I would usually go to the gym together. Once the baby was born, we found that taking turns going to the gym worked best. It would be determined on a Sunday, that she would go to the gym Monday night, I would go Tuesday night, etc.
As for eating well, I’ve become more conscious of what I eat since becoming a father. I have plenty of missteps along the way but I am much better than what I was 5-10 years ago.
