Which would you choose to lead your pre gun powder army? I personally believe if you give Alexander a time machine to the time of ghengis and allow him a year to get caught up on ghengis’s style and tactics he beats him 9X out of 10

The mongols were raised on horseback and using bows. You can’t teach that in a few years.

People from the Asian steppes tore up Romans when they met. Pretty sure they’d do the same to Macedonians.

Or take away the stirrup, and Alexander wins. Alexander decisively defeated nomad Scythians at the Battle of the Jaxartes

The steppe warriors were always tough in open terrain, whether they were Turks or Cumans or whatever. The Mongols were the ultimate expression of the steppe warrior. Impossible to beat on an open field, pre gunpowder. Ghengis was an amazing General, but much of the mongol conquests was achieved by his successors.

Alexander conquered from Egypt to India in different environments and terrain. He proved his versatility.

So I’d take Alexander as a general, although the Mongol conquests as a whole were maybe more impressive.

Doesn’t something like one of every 200 people in the world carry Genghis Khan DNA? You tell me who’s still around

Alexander was one man. The Khans were a system. They didn't miss a beat after Genghis died.

Genghis. It’s simple: Alexander inherited his army. Genghis rose from nothing to gain his. This is a no-brainer.
