Alex Murdaugh's murder conviction overturned - new trial to begin

A court clerk, Becky Hill, exercised "improper external influences" during the trial so the state supreme court voted unanimously to overturn the conviction and required a new trial.
For those who don't remember, this is the rich a-hole who blew his son's head off with a shotgun and killed his wife as she was crawling away from the scene by shooting her with a rifle.
frick this guy.

isn't this double jeopardy?

Whoa. A lot of times when shite like this happens they just all work on a plea.
This was a huge case that almost assuredly cost the State and the Murdaugh fam a lot of money.
I do hope they get him again and he rots in jail for life though

I guess overturning the conviction isn't the same as acquittal? he's definitely being prosecuted twice for the same crime

So sick of this trashy family and their stupid little fiefdom

Even if he somehow is found not guilty this time around, he will be in jail the rest of his life because of the financial crimes

The problem is the SC Supreme Court is liberals as fvck. The state isn’t but they’ve stacked the hell out of the court with leftist morons.

He's doing concurrent state and federal sentences of 27 and 40 years for the financial crimes. That's a life sentence anyway. I think he'll take a plea and get another 40.

I think his attorneys filed a motion that there were issues with the original jury. Apparently, they won him a new trial. The prosecution will play a video he was recorded in just prior to his wife and kid being murdered putting him at the scene of the crime. He isn’t going anywhere.

Murdaugh family political power doing work.
I’ve seen every documentary on the Murdaugh’s. I am no legal authority.
That dude is a human train wreck double-murderer (and more!).

You think these "leftist morons" are trying to absolve this rich, pasty, privileged family?

I think the guy is too much of a Narcissist to admit guilt and will drag this to trial. Maybe even represent himself this go around.

Why wouldn’t they? They absolved the Bidens

Dude is innocent. It's obvious to anyone paying attention that someone else murdered his wife and son.

That's what an Alford plea is for. You can't get around the video of him at the kennels when he lied for months about being off the property. He's not getting a hung jury.

No.

These crimes aren't political in nature. By most accounts, Alex Murdaugh was a dino, who wouldn't be someone any "leftist" would step out of their way to help.
