re: Aldi to build 3 stores in Baton Rouge, starting with Siegen Lane

My GF has a side gig making charcuterie boards for people. Aldi is the best spot for supplies. They have a great selection of cheese and stuff like salami and prosciutto. Occasionally you will find some other steals. But that is our go to for that stuff and it is cheap and high quality.

Probably. Big red/brown brick building with a ton of arches about two to three blocks off Airline?
Sort of.....It's set back behind a parking lot sort of like a grocery store, but it looks like an office building now. The inside looks nothing like a grocery store, but I imagine a grocery store building is pretty flexible and easy to convert with partition walls, etc. Our Lady of the Lake's corporate office is in there. Used to be Amedisys before they moved to a building closer to I-12.
This is the building on Sherwood just north of Airline that I was talking about:
It backs up to Parkview's baseball field and some apartments. Maybe that was the Schweggman’s?

It's awesome if it's convenient to your house.

They just built one in Lafayette next to the gym
Yup. My wife rolled in there this past Saturday for the first time. When she got home she said it was what she imagined a grocery store in East Germany would have looked like in the late 80's.
Rouse's it is.

Yes, that was Schweggman's. I think before Amedisys was there, there was a corporate home health office there??? I went in once it became an office building and you are right, would not have thought it was a supermarket at one time.
ETA:I'm a dumbass, it was Amdeisys that was the home health.

That’s appears to be it but it had a major renovation to get to that point.

Went to one for the first time last week in Laffy. It’s different but fresh. Good options for meat, dairy, food, etc. for a decent price. Will go back but weird to have to find a quarter and bring my own bags

Exactly what the one in Slidell looked like, although it's Rouses & Sportsman's Warehouse now. Not sure what's in the old Hammond store on Morrison.

Siegen has become a fricking shithole. I’m surprised that Total Wine hasn’t gone bust yet.
I'm not. I hear that even a cheap Merlot pairs nicely with meth.

I think you are right unless there was another location on Sherwood that they completely demolished since then. Damn...they even changed the parking lot lighting from those shoebox style lamps to LEDs and added a lake with a fountain out front.
Hard to believe that's the same building.

It's a department store sized building that sells just adult beverages?
I'm sure they'll be fine, being right in right next to a World Market, Kohls, and a Target Super Center. That same audience is probably 70% of their business. And they seem to have a badass selection based on their website and photos.

Siegen @ Rieger? Do they offer free samples like Whole Foods? I'm sure the bums will love it!
And they will be happy to return your cart for you keeping that quarter. Lol
Or is that like a job?

Eeesh, Siegen + Aldi sounds like a no bueno combo.

Aldi loves south Louisiana apparently.

We have Aldi in DFW. They now take credit cards.
But outside of a very few items all their products are solely their house brand, and they don't have a lot of variety (for example you can buy regular saltine crackers but not the unsalted variety). Nonetheless for the price you pay, it is worth it.

Schwegmann’s
Went to one in NO as a wee tot that was in such dirty disarray it looked like a hurricane had blown through it. We must have waited in line an hour -- longest grocery wait ever.
Can't forget to mention the sign at Perkins and Bluebonnet telling of a Schwegmann's "Coming Soon". Must have been there at least 5 years, maybe 10

They are building one in Covington, where the old Holiday Inn used to be on Highway 190. It's supposed to open sometime in the second half of the year. I'll give it a try. I remember shopping at one in Australia, but that was twenty years ago so I don't know what it would be like now.

Real Superstore
I remember the Real Superstore and their generic products.
The generic beer was in yellow cans with "BEER" in big letters.
Don't recall trying it, but I suspect it was nastier than natty light.
