Paying for a shopping cart might keep some of the riff raff out. I’d gladly pay for that experience

Real Superstore and Schwegmann’s.

Hence why both were forced out of business in BR.

Distribution center for those stores is on the other side of Mobile Bay - no idea who hauls their freight though, that'd be some kickass money if it's a good company.

They also purchased land with plans to develop stores on O'Neal Lane south of I-12, and in Central in the Shoe Creek area.

That makes sense.

starting with Siegen Lane

I'm a little curious about this one. Siegen is a traffic nightmare, and ALDI isn't a big draw like a Whole Foods, Target, or Costco. They are selling value and convenience.

I'd have moved to Jefferson, Burbank, or maybe Old Hammond somewhere that's easier and less frustrating to navigate from residential areas.

They'll open another DC somewhere between Lake Charles and Baton Rouge eventually. They are expanding across the south like Kudzu, although I think south Louisiana will be a tough nut to crack for them because the smaller indie stores are pretty competitive there. That's especially the case in New Orleans and Baton Rouge.

ALDI seems to be one of the few grocery chains that are growing, likely due to their unique market position. Publix seems to have paused their expansion plans, and Rouses is barely growing in territory. Winn Dixie has closed a lot of stores lately.

Cheap essentials (like really cheap) from their private label. No credit cards.

Because i pay with a credit card there like twice a week

The DC over in Alabama is the new one that's being constructed for the FL panhandle to Louisiana store expansion.

I have no idea how they're still hanging on - the ones I've been to have been super ghetto with awful customer service, definitely nowhere near what it was like 20+ years ago when I worked for them in h.s.

Siegen @ Rieger? Do they offer free samples like Whole Foods? I'm sure the bums will love it!

If you ride through Siegen Ln you'll see a lot of bargain hunting grocery shoppers. Some even can get deals on food for prices as low as nothing.

All jokes aside, at least they are trying to develop something in the area which might give people a reason to do something about the hobo ranch off of Rieger.

i shop around a good bit, but i'm pretty sure i'll never step foot in this store on Siegen/Rieger, despite living close to it.

I don't remember Schwegmann's.

Real Superstore was cool AF. But their choice in locations in the Baton Rouge area was kind of foolish. Greenwell Springs at Airline....but not visible from Airline? Who decided that was a good move? The whole chain eventually went out of business; which isn't very surprising.

The one in Lafayette is now a movie theater.

Every time I’ve been in there it’s packed. Weekends or weekdays. That said, I’m surprised they chose that location as well.

Schweggman’s was on south Sherwood near Airline.

IIRC it is a laser tag place now and part of their property got sold to Parkview Baptist at one point.

Step 1 is to knock down the 3 shitty hotels next to The Advocate's office building. The city/parish pays to put homeless up in those hotels.

LWCC knocked down hotels next to their office building for the same reason. They don't necessarily have solid expansion plans. They just wanted those hotels gone.

Same...I've been using credit cards at Aldi for at least 3 years now.

Wait...that was Amedisys HQ before they moved a few miles up the road. I think OLOL's parent company uses the building now.

I have been in that building when it was Amed. They called the marketing department "frozen foods", and I wasn't sure why. Was that a converted grocery store?

Probably. Big red/brown brick building with a ton of arches about two to three blocks off Airline?
