They also purchased land with plans to develop stores on O'Neal Lane south of I-12, and in Central in the Shoe Creek area.

quote:

Fast-growing grocery store chain Aldi has submitted plans to build a location near the intersection of Siegen Lane and Rieger Road and is looking to hire a store manager.

Aldi submitted plans last week to East Baton Rouge Parish officials for a nearly 20,500-square-foot freestanding store that would be next to Total Wine in the Siegen Village Shopping Center. The chain is running ads on its website for a store manager trainee at the Rieger Road store.

Congrats Baton Rouge! Aldi is what you get when Costco fricks a Trader Joe's and the kid gets the worst possible genetic combination.

I like Aldi. But starting with Siegen means they ain’t likely to stay in the market these days.

Siegen has become a fricking shithole. I’m surprised that Total Wine hasn’t gone bust yet.

I spoke to Aldi about your concern. Their response was that anyone who thinks this should suck on Aldi's nuts.

I've never been in an Aldi. What's the value proposition?

Siegen

I avoid it during the daytime because of the traffic.

And in the nighttime because of all the traffic and the homeless.

Cheap essentials (like really cheap) from their private label. No credit cards.

It’s basically a smaller Costco/Sam’s.

So cheap you have to pay for a shopping cart... Perfect for BR.

Pretty sure free wine tastings aren't going to help bring in better clientele with the location it is in.

They will probably be out of nuts that day.

It's a little bigger than Trader Joes, but the crowd doesn't have their heads that far up their own arse.

I like it because it's like Sam's, Wal Mart (grocery), or Costco, but much smaller/easier to get into/out of. That's important to me because I hate crowds, especially when grocery shopping.

You get your quarter back if you return it. Stop being lazy.

went to the new one in Lafayette yesterday and holy hell those produce prices! What a steal..

Meat prices looked pretty good as well

Side anecdote - trashy arse couple put a cigarette out on the ground a foot outside the entrance, then when they realized you have to pay $0.25 for a cart, they threw a fit and left. I thought that was amazing. Who knew a quarter was all it took to create a force field to keep assholes out your store

If its anything like the one I have been in to in Nashville, you can forget about shopping choices. Two types of tub butter. One size of milk

Never been to an Aldi or Lidl here in the US. Only Germany. Wonder if they're the same.
