Spotting the iPad kid out in the wild is a fun game to play since you know exactly what I am talking about.

I believe it. We already had the Word Gap, and now this is going to absolutely blow that out of the water.

Just have them play sports too

Real life. My 12 year old nephew has a phone and already has a very unhealthy relationship with it. I thought he was going to go into withdrawals when he couldn’t look at it for 30 minutes and kept coming up with excuses to wander off and try to check it (bathroom, need water, just want to see what’s over there, etc). His parents don’t care though.

Not sure I can take seriously someone who has sleeve tats talking about good reasoning skills.

I’ve never heard of that before, but it makes complete sense and is fascinating. Wow.

Very important. If you want your child to have good posture and confidence, get them involved in sports.

Idiocracy is playing out in real time.

Definitely not true on the wealthy kids don’t have iPads.

This concept in a boiled down version( not based on affluence, yet electronic usage) is very evident to anyone that has hired in the past 5 years.. simple problem solving ability amongst coworkers is found in maybe 1 in 10 of new hires

So the affluent kids are getting outside and playing which takes 0$ and the lower socioeconomic status are being cooped up inside with $900 smartphones.
Makes sense

What I am noticing is a LOT of the 20 somethings grew up on smart phones and tablets and have no idea how to use a PC once they get to the business world.

I do not and my nephews share a child tablet. You’ll be damn sure it’s used as a bribery tool to keep them quiet if out at dinner or something.
And as much as I give my sister shite about her kids being a little… weak, they are smart and well behaved. This is not an uncommon occurrence

In our social group there is a move to things like the Tin Can phone, which essentially operates as a land line, and away from personal screens.
Now it’s obviously not 100%, but I would say less than 50% of them are given tablets to occupy their time. I think it has more to do with people who understand delayed gratification vs the instant gratification groups. People who are more affluent are generally going to be more educated, and people who are more educated generally understand delaying gratification more than people who are less educated.
ETA: basically if you’re in the instant gratification group you’re more likely to give your kid a screen to shut them up, than someone in the delayed gratification group that understands it may be “harder” not to just give them a screen, but in the end it’s worth it.

Based on what’s on the wall behind him, he may have been a Marine.
Additionally, he is probably correct in his observations.

We did this, it’s great. Sits in our kitchen and they have numbers in a Rolodex like the good old days. Connected to an app so we can shut it off anytime and restrict who can call/be called.
Has a squiggly cord they bitch about and everything!
We’re a no smartphone until driving household as well. We might get them “dumb phones” as they get into high school for emergencies, but nothing else. Parents have really rallied around this, our whole friend group from their school is the same so it won’t be like our kids are the only ones being treated this way.
