They just want to see if they can get an extra pound of freight in the airplane.

How about measuring the person's girth. If you are over the limit, you have to buy the seat next to you.

Can you guys imagine the push back once they tell a women that she's too fat to get on the flight?

Unfortunately the right way to do this is to offer a passenger some airline points or something to switch to another flight if the aircraft is over loaded. Which is a cost that we will all pay a little for.

If you aren’t a large man to begin with, 6’3 and up, there is no reason to be over 250 pounds. And for women, no reason to be over 200

on commuter flights it's not unusual for them to shift passengers around according to weight.

It can happen on pretty much any aircraft. I’ve been on a fairly empty 737 and they had to shift us around.

I would welcome a by-the-weight fare structure.

I mean, that's how it works when i want to send a package across the country on a plane. And there's a reason they price it that way

I agree with this. If you can't fold up into the seat, you need to buy a bigger seat or the seat next to you.

Full disclosure. My knees are jammed into the back of the seat in front of me in almost all domestic coach flights. If an aircraft type is consistently overweight, I'd be totally happy with them eliminating a row and splitting the legroom up between the remaining seats. I seem to have an acute lack of knee room on the Boeing 737 and 757 if I don't get upgraded. Not nearly as big of an issue with me on the A320 or even the CRJ's or ERJ's. I can sleep reasonably comfortably on those.

I'm also okay with fewer people on board in general. And flying might be more pleasant if the ticket prices were slightly higher.

Weight is so broad though. Some guys could be pushing up to 300 pounds but are not really be fat just muscular. Think we need to measure by girth instead. If you're past a certain width you gotta buy 2 seats.
