The president of Lipscomb University issued a public apology after an untold number of African American students were offended by a dinner table centerpiece made from stalks of cotton.
Randy Lowry, president of the Christian university based in Nashville, had invited African-American students to his home for dinner last week. One student who attended the gathering posted a diatribe on Instagram – along with a photo of the “offensive” centerpiece.

“We were very offended,” the student wrote. “My friend … asked why there was cotton on the table as the centerpiece. His response was that he didn’t know, he seen it before we did, he kind of thought it was ‘fallish’, THEN he said, “it ISNT INHERENTLY BAD IF WERE ALL WEARING IT.”LINK

While certainly overblown and a ridiculous reason to be offended, the president had to have known that was a stupid centerpiece idea.

I'm sure the Cotton Bowl will be under pressure to change their name

Then I remember the bowl game and the stadium are in Texas so they'll tell these clowns to kick rocks

Why? The idea that a decorative centerpiece using cotton which has become quite popular in recent years could be offensive is the rhetoric of modern day idiocy on display.. so someone is offended by an innocuous object... I say frick them

My mother cut cotton this time of year from her farm and put it on the front porch on top of a bail of hay with pumpkins and stalks of corn cut from the same farm as her fall decorations. Not one black kid was offended when they knocked on the door for Halloween candy.

And if by chance this particular person can trace her ancestry to an actual cotton farm maybe she should celebrate it as well because if not she wouldn't be alive in the greatest country on earth.

frick these people.

I know some chicks that went to lipscomb. They were decently hot but they were "good girls" and they'd only give handjobs.

As far as the black people and their cotton. I don't care

As I said yesterday, paper napkins will be next. We know where napkins come from so don't be surprised if these idiots start espousing that all trees should be cut down for the role they played during a time in history.

One would think that crime statistics and illegimate birth rates of their people would offend and embarrass them more so than a cotton twig.

Thanks to John Deere, this hasn't been a concern for many years.

This reminds me of a joke I heard at least 40 years ago Black comedian Nipsy Russell said he had an uncle who died of a headache. The old man refused to pull the cotton out of the aspirin bottle, saying "Them cotton picking days are over!"

Can *I* be offended by the butchering of their, presumably, native language?
