What I dont understand about this quote is that tractors were not a mainstream tool in US agriculture until the 1920s.
Also, how does this is anyway justify the usage of slavery over contracted labor. I guess this is a joke saying that Blacks weren't needed after it, ignoring the factory and household labor entirely.

Cotton is an agriculture commodity that looks really cool. You should see tourists going through the Delta that stop to take pics or pick bolls because it's so different.
Are they offended by rice and sugar, because those are crops that were grown with slave labor over 150 years ago?
Are farmers who grow these racist? I'd be willing to bet the majority of current farmers in the South don't have ancestors that had slaves.

My grandmother, god rest her soul, would pick cotton during the summer when she was younger to help feed her siblings and family, until her hands were raw and have to fill up bags to a certain weight before the day was through for not much money at all.
