Yeah, that is a lot. My daughter has/had pretty severe acne, all over her face. She is getting into her teens, so I'm pretty sure its due to hormones.
Right before school ended in May, we started her on Differin gel. It was a prescription for a while, and it got rid of my brothers extremely bad acne growing up; so we tried it, since they started selling it at Wal-mart, no prescription needed anymore for 11 dollars.
Other than drying out the skin at first, which using moisturizer regularly helps. She should be 98% or more acne free by time she goes back to school. I recommend, I've seen it clear severe acne multiple times.

And don’t forget to change the pillow case nightly. That’s a huge step forward to getting rid of acne.

Remember when Obama said he was going to make health care affordable?

That’s because every kid on accutane gets called pizza face 10 times a day and nobody wants to make out with them.

Want to stop 98% of acne? Avoid dairy, especially milk.
No, accutane is not cheap nor a good option. Does work but can be very dangerous.

That shite must work. I rarely see kids with acne. Back in the day, nearly every kid had at least some.

Doctors have no idea what your insurance coverage will or will not pay for, nor should you expect them to.

I went to the dermatologist about 2 years ago. Some bumps and redness on my forehead. Wrote me two prescriptions, which came from a Texas pharmacy via Fed Ex. It had an invoice with it for $1,200. Weeks later I got a statement from my insurance for $40 or something. Let the insurance hocus pocus play out before you panic. I’m sure I paid for it, and more, indirectly over time but I didn’t have to take that direct hit.

It is cosmetic.
Why should insurance cover that?
Why should insurance cover that?

true... but good health care professionals want good outcomes for their patients... so, if you can't afford the latest, greatest medication, then i damn sure would make sure to give the patient and physician other options that may be just as effective at a lower cost, to ensure the patient does get their medication, as intended, to achieve their therapeutic outcome...
True, but we don't know if the doctor put "substitution permitted" or not. Then you have to account for whether the substituted drug had the same HCPCS code. And if the pharmacy is a preferred pharmacy. And which tier the drug is.

Nothing said you had to take them from the pharmacy. I've gotten prescriptions over the years that I have found to be way too $$$$ and told them to keep them and I'd get back with the Dr. for either a generic or a cheaper RX.

Yeah screw that no way you should have payed

I can link the research but I’m sure you know how to google.
The fact of the matter is every insurance is different and the drug companies and their reps tell us the medicine will “never exceed X amount of dollars for the patient” (however that isn’t always true) so we write the medicine we think will help the patient the best. What you don’t understand is that yes their are generics for minocycline but solodyn is extended release and you only need to take it once a day as opposed to the generic which you need to take twice a day thus decreasing compliance Especially for an adolescent kid who is going to have low compliancy anyway. The healthcare providers job is not to determine what you insurance is going to pay.
For the op, ask your derm provider to write minocycline extended release and send it to a pharmacy called GenRX. They have a generic of the extended release variety that is similar to Solodyn and it’s cheap.
Any other questions?

Find another prescription or go to a mom and pop pharmacy to fill it.
My kid had eczema on her face and the stuff they prescribed was $700. I called the doc and they hooked me up with some mom and pop pharmacy in Missouri that filled and shipped it for $15.

That's just gross. What a world we live in huh? You can make money from posting a video of someone popping a big nasty zit.

Agree. It's just too complicated sometimes.
But it is nice to do. Plus it's in the provider's best interest to at least try. If the patient gets a surprise bill due to the deductible or a non covered item, the provider gets to hear from an angry patient. And the majority of Americans can't write a check for $1200 so you're going to end up waiting to get paid or not getting paid at all.
