I don’t know if you read the article but it says the new terminal will have a single TSA screening station as opposed to 3. Hopefully they didn’t reduce the lines/lanes

Fortunately for the author he doesn't discuss aviation but rather the fact that the infrastructure to get to the new terminal won’t even be started to be worked on until after the terminal is completed

The best that BR can hope for is for people in the BR area to fly out of BTR instead of MSY.
I prefer to fly out of BTR and will unless MSY is significantly cheaper.

The airlines have a significant investment in the new MSY terminal.
They aren’t gonna invest more money into an unproven market 80 miles upriver

The author does show his ignorance towards airports in general. ATL has three checkpoints in the domestic terminal, and handles a completely different volume and daily profile of passenger. The checkpoints are also constrained because they were built 20-30 years ago with very limited room to expand. The new MSY terminal is a clean sheet design, but I digress....
The single checkpoint will be a massive improvement over the current set up. Right now they have to staff the three checkpoints regardless of demand. So if Southwest is in a lull and doesn't have many departing flights they can't just move the personnel over to C or D which may be at capacity, they have to keep B open and staffed with officers.
Under a single, much larger checkpoint they can staff it to total demand levels and thus make it less likely that TSA will be caught flat footed because they misjudged demand at a certain terminal. On an aggregate basis they can take total daily seat capacity, use O&D percentages and estimated load factors, and then apply a simple show-up profile to determine average demand on a rolling ten minute basis.
But yes, roadway access is going to be a shite show. Nice work New Orleans!
