Bars, gyms and restaurants. Those were just a few settings health experts warned could become hotbeds for COVID-19 spread as states began reopening in the spring and summer of 2020 following the first and second waves of the coronavirus pandemic in the United States.

Yet, public data analyzed by ABC News appears to tell a different story. The data from states across the country suggests specific outbreak settings (including bars, gyms, restaurants, nail salons, barbershops and stores -- for the full list, see graphic below in story) only accounted for a small percentage, if any, of new outbreaks after the pandemic's inital wave in 2020.

Based on ABC News’ analysis of public data of all coronavirus cases in four states and D.C., the outbreak settings accounted for less than 5% of all COVID-19 cases in those states.

Covid 19 public health policy was the single most damaging, senseless international mistake since the First World War.

What makes it so sad is that even after it became obvious none of these activities were causing the surge, so many average people kept on supporting what their overlords were doing to them.

I noticed, for example, that women in their 50s with pictures of their dogs as their profile pics on Twitter were far and away the most likely to defend the lockdowns, even this every day they are going into Twitter saying it is a mistake to get rid of masks.

For those of you who developed searing rage at Public policy and the failure of “experts” to enact effective covid policy, i recommend reading up on the terrible track record of “experts” when they get involved in social policy

I never understood the gym part. Only a small population regularly goes, and they were always more likely to have mild cases etc.

The more information that comes out, the stupider the “experts” look.

My gym has probably 100 members, I know 5 or so that got Covid. Since it's small they'd shoot out an email letting people know someone got it. Not one single person got it from the gym after we were notified.

Arguably the saddest part is that a lot of this information was already out

Media just decided to wait for politically opportune times to acknowledge it

And yet, how many of them were utterly destroyed by all of this hysteria?

Requiring masks in the gym while you workout on an isolated cardio machine was one of the dumbest things ever

Yeah. We knew that months ago. Didn't stop the push to destroy them, though. Because......Science.

I’m pretty satisfied with my decision to live life normally in 2020 and 2021 and skirt all COVID restrictions.

Ummm bars and restaurants and gyms were all either closed or heavily restricted during almost all of the pandemic so this stat is dumb.

You know what else I heard? Most covid casualties died in hospitals. We should left the bars open and closed the ICUs instead...

It's beyond clear that Fauci was completely drunk on his power and newfound celebrity. There's a special place in hell prepped for him.

Every lockdown and draconian measure after august was just aimed at beating Trump.

Entire nation's economy, and people's lives, destroyed to get Biden/Harris.

What a world. . .

Is there a class action suit to be filed on behalf of these businesses against states, municipalities, and the doctors involved?

Still hard to wrap my head around how tragically and criminally negligent this whole pandemic was handled. Especially for kids. I know it fricked my son up with college. My college days were the best days of my life and he fricking hates it.
