Do you have kids or people you are responsible for?

If so, while noble, not so sure that's the correct call, but to each his own.

Yeah I loved my dog as much as anyone. Putting my partner in crime down at age 14 (her, not me) was one of the toughest decisions ever.

So I love/respect/whatever my pets and I think giving her a chance to fend for herself until I could get back to her would be what I did instead of shooting her on the way out the door.

Unless I was having to leave her in the condition she was in when I out her down (paralyzed in the hind end from slipped discs) because she couldn't fend for herself.

But I live outside of town where someone would take care of her until I could get back. I know I would do the same for someone else's dogs.

There is also a good chance that he doesn't starve, doesn't drown, doesn't get bit by snakes, etc.

not really

its not a good chance, its a very slim chance

You would rather not give him a chance.

correct, I would rather not give him a chance to die miserably

0% vs not 0%

my way has a 0% chance of him dying miserably

your way has him a 90% chance dying miserably

like I said, have some respect for your pets

Yeah, karma will bite them in the arse. That's a sign of a person with some serious mental deficiency. That's a nice looking dog. If I saw him, he would be back at my house in no time.

Seriously? I would save an animal before a stranger just about 100% of the time.

would rank pets(dogs, cats, etc) much higher than the majority of people I encounter. Pets are much better beings than most people.

My wife would stay and die with her pets before she would leave them behind, it is not even debatable.

That's absurd enough as it is, but I hope you guys don't have kids.

A whole lotta self righteous pricks in this thread. Would I abandon a dog if at all possible? No, but we also have no idea what this guy has been through, and will continue to go through. My parents had to leave their cat at the house the other day, because it was stay and possibly die while trying to find the damn thing, or get to safety.

I agree it looks bad, but let's have any sort of rational conversation instead of "I feel that..." terrible arguments people go to when pets are involved.

Any animal? So you save Killer the foamy mouthed pit bull instead of some little 2 year old crying in the street?

You save Slappy the squirrel over Gam-Gam?

What about an alligator? You gonna save it from the flood instead of some pregnant lady?

I haven't read past the first post, but my first thought was how much this must warm fr33's heart.
