Nice. If the rate stays constant, in 100 years, this "ocean" will be over 2 feet wide. I guess that would be more of a bay or channel, through right?

Well let’s not presume the rate of expansion will stay constant. You’re bumming us out.

Exciting news like this deserves a bit more hype. After 100 years, it’s quite possible this thing could end up at 2 and a half feet.

Think about it this way…there are kids being born today who will never know a time when there wasn’t a 7 mm chasm to be found in Africa. What a time to be alive!

Not a new issue, I visited the African rift Vally 30 years age and if you watch the Nat. Geographic monologues about the millions of flamingoes, the rift Vally is the photo shoot location

Geologists think in geologic time. Ten million years is nothing in geologic time. Try 7 mm per year for 10 million years.

Remember the earth will keep on going when we are long gone.

Is this where the internet acts like the Great Rift Valley is a new thing

Correct. Lake Tanganyika and Malawi say hello. Anybody who has much experience with freshwater aquariums is familiar with the African rift lakes.

Well I am sure the damn Japanese are already planning to overfish the duck out of it, which will obviously sent crawfish prices skyward

This thread shows that people only know about Africa what they see on TV. Typical OT morons,
