A family in Houma almost died from Carbon Monoxide poisoning

It shocks me that this still happens in Louisiana after as many hurricanes as we have had.
4 members of a family died in Lake Charles after Hurricane Laura by putting their generator in the garage and the wind closing the door leaving the fumes nowhere to escape except to enter the house.
Be careful

The garage one is insane.
The porch one is more understandable but still dumb

Thinking he was probably ok with the porch one, I’m not taking that chance tho. But no way you do a closed garage.

Darwin Award winning family right there. Sheesh!

I know regulations suck, but the generator I bought after Ida had a built in CO monitor.
BTW I still hadn’t found out why it wouldn’t start earlier in the year when I tested it.
Luckily, I would have only needed it for a day. Entergy came back on Thursday night.
It is still a modern miracle that Entergy is energizing so quickly in some areas. Heck Fourchon and Grand Isle not losing power was good test of some of the fortifications they have made.

Except the exhaust is pointing at the door which was left cracked open for the extension cords.
These people are idiots.

Was this a single mother home? The exhaust muffler is facing directly into the house.

There is no reason these folks should still be alive…his whole damn family should be dead right now.

Why not place at the garage open and put a fan in front to blow out exhaust?

I changed the location of my new portable window air conditioner unit to the central living room. I made a homemade shelter at the back of my lot to get the generator fumes away from the house. It was probably a very conservative decision, but my family is alive.

Even the NWS is trying to get the message out, but I doubt these people are reading NWS web pages.

Family puts a generator inside the house and the fire department types “loosing” instead of “losing”. Louisiana showing off that 50th in education ranking.
