I spent the day out riding and working fences - left my cell phone at the barn. Let up about 3 CST that day and went back to the barn and learned what had happened.

It was as if the world changed on a dime.

I had just finished PT(Pacific time zone) and was walking back to the barracks when someone mentioned that a plane had hit the WTC. At that point it just sounded like a freak accident. I was eating breakfast in the chow hall and watching CNN when the second plane hit. At that point it was obviously an attack.

Soon after we were told not to come into work and stay by a phone. We were finally called in that afternoon and worked until late that night bubble wrapping our equipment and loading it on to trucks but my unit didn't actually go anywhere for a few months. I had just reenlisted four months earlier (at the Iraq/Kuwait border) and was wondering if I had made a dumb decision.

Was in the field doing Army training. After a little debate, we continued to train. Figured it was the best thing we could do at the time.....

Crazy day for me. I was in north LA headed to MS to train at 20th SFG facility. Was working for the DOJ then. I had gotten up early and was out for a run and listening to my FM radio (pre iPhone music) and the radio DJ reported the first wreck. Like many I assumed it was a Cessna or something. Then he broke in and reported the second impact and I turned around and ran as hard as I can back to my room for about a mile. Arrived to my cell phone and pager going nuts. Flipped on the TV and about ten seconds later the first tower fell. I remember telling my buddy on the phone "OK, now I am pissed. "

I was told to haul arse to downtown Shrevesport and we convened at a command post. I think it was the DEA offices. It was kind of surreal because people were all carrying around rifles like they were going to war. We watched TV's for a bit and then we got a call on the STU3 and I was told to load up some guys and go to Barksdale AFB but they wouldn't tell me why. Which was bizarre. When we got there they were having a bomb scare over an unattended box that was left at the front gate. Later determined the Fed Ex guy had been waiting to clear security when the first plane hit and shite got crazy. He hauled arse and just left one of the boxes. They blew it up and papers went everywhere which was kind of funny. I was standing outside the gate with a Col and Air Force One came hauling arse in low and fast and that was when I was like Oh now I know why they sent me over here. We got on base and helped USSS pull security while GW gave his speech. Right place on that day to see a part of history but felt very powerless to really do anything.

About 8am I was watching live on either fox or CNN when the 2nd plane went into the tower. Think I may have just smoked a bowl headed to some of my freshman year tuesday and Thursday classes

I remember it seemed like people were already speculating that OBL was behind the attacks for some reason.

Was fairly quickly when speculation took off.

I was stationed at Ft Campbell, KY we were all alerted and put on lock down by lunch the day. Less than 3 weeks later we were on a plane heading for Afghanistan. I was just a terrified yet excited at the same time private.

In Pleasanton, CA for technical training on the company's dime. Saw the reports on the TV from the hotel room, then went to training. Found out during the first class that at least one tower had collapsed, and the CEO of the vendor company announced that the training would go on so the terrorists would not disrupt our business. Training completed the next day, Wednesday. All airports shut down, so my co-workers and I got the rest of the week in the San Fran area paid for. Went to Golden Gate National Park, Monterrey, Fisherman's Wharf, etc.

I was in 8th Grade Physical Science. The teacher in the adjoining classroom had a planning period that hour and was watching the news on the classroom tv while he worked. He came in and said "The WTCs have been attached. Bombed." We immediately turned on our tv and watched. Pretty much all day was going from class to class watching it. I'll never forget how quiet a damn high school was.

At work. Someone mentioned a plane hit a building in NYC. I made a joke like " maybe the plane saw it's own reflection in the window like birds do".

No one did ANY work that day.

I was about 8 miles away from the site. They told us to go home. I sat in traffic about five miles straight west, staring at the massive cloud. By time I got home you could smell it. I live across the Hudson about three miles south of the Statue of Liberty. The helucopters all night and the smell was crazy. Explaining to the kids was impossible.
