I was in Big Lake AK in a "mushers cabin." Didn't have tv, neighbor came up the road in an ATV and told us. Went to her house and watched the second tower fall
Drove to Anchorage from there, and the downtown area was shutdown because of Korean Air flight 85. LINK

I had a job interview that day downtown that got canceled. I watched the second plane hit the tower live on TV. I think I was around 25 at the time.

7th grade football practice. I remember hearing some rumblings during it.
We went inside and watched live coverage rest of the morning. Certainly a WTF moment when you're 12 yrs old.

CAD class in college. Radio in my old truck didn't work so I had no clue until I got to school.
Walked into class and everyone had a miserable look on their face. Asked a guy what was wrong and he just said "bad day." It wasn't until I went in the next room that had a tv that I saw what had happened.

Damn, I also remember asking a girl to go to homecoming that morning before classes started. Forgot about that. I found out in my first period.

You know what's really fricked up?
There are people that weren't even born by 9/11 that will likely be fighting in Afghanistan in the next couple years.

I was a HS junior in science when the principal came on the intercom and announced the attack at the end of 1st period
I didn't have class in 2nd period so went to the JROTC class where they were watching it and relayed the news of the 2 towers falling to the other JROTC class (who weren't able to watch it b/c an administrator was sitting in on the class)
my 1st real foray I guess into transmitting breaking news... something that would be my life for roughly 5 years

On a Delta flight to Cincinnati...got diverted to Dallas, had no knowledge as to why (they didn't want to tip off potential hijackers on board) and had a terrible time getting home. I always say, if I had known that that morning would be my last easy breeze thru airport security I would have enjoyed it more....

I was kid in the 3rd grade. The day before I had an asthma attack and doctor told me to stay home. Next day mom was bringing me over to my grandmas, when we got there she told us a plane had just hit the first tower. At first we all thought it was some kind of accident. Then live on TV the second plane hit. I'm in a weird spot because most people my age didn't witness it because they were too young or in school, and often forget how impactful and terrifying it was. I saw the whole thing play out on TV live. I even remember my grandma calling everyone in the family, my Uncle coming home early from work, and everyone panicking at the news. I remember it all, something most millennials forget.

Elementary school. I can only recall a few things from that day, but the parts I do remember from are still very distinct.
The first thing I can remember about that morning was getting to school early because my mom was volunteering to help out with something in the front office. My guess is that was close to an hour before the attacks.
Next, I can remember sitting in class, and the tv was on, but the channel it was tuned to was only for the morning announcements so nothing about the attacks had made it on screen. The tv being left on after morning announcements was pretty normal, but I first became aware something was wrong when a woman came into our classroom frantically telling our teacher to shut the tv off. It's kinda blurry after that, but I remember the teachers acting like nothing was wrong and at no time did they attempt to discuss what had taken place.
The last thing I can recall was coming home like normal, but my mom was sitting out on the back porch. She asked me if I knew about anything that happened, but I was 9 and no one at school was allowed to explain it to us so I had to hear it all from my mom. She said they told her not to take me out of school when the news broke and she watched from inside the front office. After she explained it the best way she could to someone so young she turned on the news for me to see for myself, but I really had no way to understand what it all meant.
I guess it's weird what sticks and what doesn't, but those few moments are so clear in my head it's scary and I doubt they'll ever go away.

I was living in Australia at the time, so it began around 10:30pm, September 11 down there. Back in those days, the only American news channel we got was Fox, and we usually had it on at night for background noise. I had just started to fall asleep when my wife woke me up and said an airplane had crashed into the World Trade Center. I thought it was a piper club and said "what a shitty pilot." I had just started to fall back asleep when I heard my brother-in-law yell "Holy frick!" from the living room. That is when the second plane had hit. I was wide awake at that point.
We all watched Fox News and then eventually Sky News Australia started picking up the CNN feed. I called my mother in Louisiana, and told her to put CNN on and we were seeing the same news. We stayed on the phone together for about two hours. During that time there was the Pentagon, and Shanksville. And there was misinformation too, like the explosion at the State Department, more planes in the air, etc.
I stayed up until around 3:00 am watching the news. The last thing I saw before going back to sleep was Bush making his remarks from Barksdale AFB. A lot of people in Australia didn't have a clue of what had happened until they woke up the next morning. I got up at 6:00 and went into work. On the train, everyone had their nose stuck in the Sydney Morning Herald or the Daily Telegraph, reading about the attacks. Friends at work acted kind of weird around me for a couple of days, being the only American they knew, as if they didn't know what to say to me.

My submarine was in dry dock at Kings Bay, GA. I was topside and somebody came up saying a plane hit the WTC. I figured it was a small private plane. I went below to watch it on the TV and saw the 2nd one hit. I was standing next to my CO and he said "If you don't have to be here I suggest you leave the base while you still can" so I GTFO and watched the rest of the day with my roommate who was from NYC.
Every sub that could leave left. We were stuck. The next several weeks sucked arse. I was standing armed watches on an 8 hours on/16-off schedule for about 5 or 6 weeks.

In a hotel room in Cincinnati. Thought it was an accident until I saw the second plane hit live. It was a very different/difficult feeling since I was only 10.

I was at home sleeping and I got a call from my oil drilling rig toolpusher that woke me up. I was due to leave that night of 9-11-01 to be at the port of Fourchon, LA for my oil rig crew change. I always got inebriated the night before crew change as a ritual so I was sleeping it off. The call was at around 12:45 pm and my toolpusher told me to turn on the news and wait by the phone. He called me back at around 2:30 and told me crew change was canceled because all flights in the Gulf Of Mexico were canceled. I sat on my couch all that day and all that night watching msnbc in a daze.I ended up having to crew change on a boat two days later on 9/13.

Learned that the second plane had hit as soon as I got to my office floor. To me, one of the more terrifying things shown on TV that day was when Bush entered the bunker at Offutt air base.

I was on my way to do charity work at a school when everything started being reported on the radio.
