The Fort Worth Fire Department responded to a car dealership after multiple vehicles caught on fire on Friday evening. The fire was reported around 5 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 9.

There were at least eight electric vehicles at Frank Kent Cadillac that sustained "extensive damage," and two others that were exposed to the flames, FWPD said in a statement to WFAA. It the highest number of electric vehicles on fire at once that Fort Worth fire has battled, officials said.

This seems like kind of an important detail:

The fire started on a single vehicle and spread to the other cars, officials said.

It's not that common

Will be less common when they move to future battery tech

They’re a ticking time bomb, metal fires are no joke, death trap in a bad accident.

Yep. The other problem with those battery fires is you can't just smother them, it's a chemical reaction that doesn't need outside oxygen. They hit them with water to cool them, and it takes crazy amounts of water.

Then they need to monitor for a couple days, in case a cell deep inside the pack starts up again. The LiFePo4 type are safer, but aren't as energy dense.

I'm sensing a plot for a horror movie, The cybercab gives a few cute teens a lift, then immolates them while they are stuck in traffic on I35 with the doors locked

Dealer couldn’t sell them. Insurance will help him break even.
