That news report spent nearly 20% of its time discussing pilot fatigue. With 2 active pilots in the cockpit, plus an RJ jumpseater, in what world would fatigue have caused that plane to end up in a straight nose down attitude? Why even bring that up?

I would pilot fatigue near a 0% chance of being the reason. And whomever came up with that theory is a fricking retard.

Also, the I heard the jumpseater was on his last trip for Mesa. He had been picked up by United and was due to start with them soon. Sad.

Lithium batteries are a more likely excuse.

Granted still not likely with non emergency call.

I read that there was no hazmat on the plane according to the manifest. Could be wrong.

Either way I don’t see how that would cause a nose down dive into the water. The CVR and FDR will tell the story

Yeah possible failure of elevator or trim surfaces. Intentional act would be strange. The CVR will tell us very soon if we can eliminate that. The FDR needs to be found ASAP too

Willing to bet cargo pilots are more experienced than the majority of RJ pilots

I don’t know what RJ means, but if it’s passenger airline pilots you would be wrong.

I’m a GA pilot, and my many instructors were aspiring to fly for the airlines. Cargo was a step on the way up.
OK, finally realized RJ means regional jet. So...nevermind.

GA=general aviation, ie private pilot. I assume RJ = regional jet ie commuter airline.

If black boxes are indestructible, why don't they build the entire plane out of it?

Why are they called black boxes when they are orange.

Atlas has the same hiring minimums as regional airlines. Also, many people still consider cargo jobs with UPS and FedEx to be the pinnacle of commercial aviation. Those guys make a lot of money and many have been flying cargo for decades.

I admit I haven't seen Atlas explicitly state their mins, but they're De facto higher than the regionals. There was a time when I would've taken a job there but settled for a regional. Concur on FedEx/UPS, hoping to get my number called(probably won't happen before the pax carriers call). Won't be disappointed with AA/Delta though.

The good news is that flightaware says that the plane was on time. The bad news is that Trinity Bay was its intended destination.
Takes a real POS to post something like this.

I know LiPo batteries are banned in planes , if they banded LiIon that would be huge as most people have lithium batteries in phones and devices

Lithium burns hot, but they still would have known there was a fire and had time to use halon and water and make a call.
No report of fire.
No emergency call, wings level pitch down.
I'll reserve but I would assume pilot error or intention
