I know older people who have. Evidently if one of the birds gets the other bird in the right spot with the spurs they put on them, it gets really bloody.

Yes. In Puerto Rico. It was disgusting. (For those that don't know, they put blades on their legs, which generally ends with one of the birds being blinded first).

Went to a few in my youth in southern Arkansas. Dad and his buddies took us teenagers while at the hunting camp.. CPAs and lawyers throwing money on cock fighting was a weird sight.. a true mixed crowd where everybody got along

I probably know a couple of them. They go all over the world fighting roosters.

Yes. A couple of times. Cock fighting was very prevalent in South Louisiana in the 70s. It was legal and popular. I was young, not more than 10y/o. My uncle was big into it. There was an old barn/shed just off HWY 35. It had a fighting ring and bleachers inside. Free admission, no concessions, and no bathrooms. The youngsters would kneel in the dirt ringside. Place was packed. I'm sure there was betting going on. Competition was fierce. I remember getting a little blood splattered on me.
Sunday afternoon cock fights.

This is what I am talking about. I was talking to an older gentleman... This was years ago.. And he was talking about how he used to go to cock fights somewhere south of Lafayette. He said when one bird gets the other one in the right spot.. it looks like a murder scene.

Back in the ‘60s, there were fights at a place outside of Loreauville. It was a strange environment but everybody was into it. I only went once.
The building is still there but it’s some kind of manufacturing business now.

In the US, they mostly use gaffs, which is like a curved icepick. Overseas, they use slashers, which are basically small blades. Those fights usually don't last very long.

Yet another thread where I'm amazed by the collective depth of expertise on such a niche topic here in the OT.

When you see 50 blue barrels or little A frame shelters with red roosters staked out on a 3 ft. tether, that’s cockfighters.

It's not illegal to raise fighting cocks, they just can't get caught fighting them.

so Brusly or Addis? Just say where. You're not giving the location of Michael Pearson's secret grow locations.
