I remember visiting my dad, we were driving back to his house. Couple of dudes were outside in their yard unloading some furniture together. He slows down to about 15, kills his beer, rolls his window down and uses some homosexual slurs while telling them to get the frick out of his neighborhood. He then tosses his empty bottle at them, which shatters near them against their uhaul as he spun off with his middle finger up.
He was then called and thanked by their across the street neighbor who witnessed my dad's actions.
He could've probably made the news Nowadays

I put a blanket, sleeping bag, and pillow in the bed of a truck and slept from houston to the house. It was probably 55 degrees. I was probably 7.

For sure. I can remember going to the store to buy my Dad smokes, no questions asked.
I'd also go with him to the tavern anytime from 13 on up, day or night, and nobody lost their shite.

Going to Circle K and trying to buy a Playboy at 14.
Leaving a note to tell your family where you are.

Don’t think I rode in a car seat once in my life.
Bush. Young baws will never appreciate what a hunt that used to be.
Entire days of just playing in the woods.
Riding bikes..everywhere.
Finding secret stashes of Playboy, Hustler and a Cherri if you got damn lucky.

Not being allowed in house in the summer unless it was raining. We were outside all day.

And Saturday morning cartoons. They fricked.
They still come on on Me TV three hours each Saturday. Popeye and Pink Panther at 6, Tom and Jerry at 7, and Looney Toons at 8.

I lived in an old house growing up and my room had a window-unit A/C. When the glass fuse would blow, I would go down outside and unscrew it and change it out.
We also had one of those ugly outdoor metal antennas, that was on a pole, 20' high or so. If reception got bad, I was sent out side to spin it, until Mom & Dad said "That's good!" from inside the living room, through an open window.

Black and white TVs and crappy color TVs that would only get reception for 3 channels. And then the arguments of "You change the channel. I changed it last time!".

Riding my bike in and out of traffic at 9 years old

Taking off on my bike with a .22 rifle and my buddy and I going squirrel hunting “in the woods” which meant any vacant piece of property with trees that we could find.

Had to move a bobble head dog and a couple of sun cracked Bibles to have room to ride up there in mama’s old car.

Definitely smoking. Seemed like most adults did. At home, in their office, at a restaurant table.

Hunting birds in the neighborhood with my pellet gun.
Walk or ride my bike home from school with my friends. Immediately play outside all day until dark with our parents just knowing I was likely within 5 miles of the house. Riding bikes everywhere.
My parents and all the neighborhood friends parents could whip the shite out of any of the kids who did anything out of line. One of my best friends mom used to whip me as much as my own mom and dad. I mean I deserved it blowing up stuff with firecrackers on their property, etc
Playing football in everyone's front yard. Playing in the ditch and bringing home fish, snakes and crawdads and putting them in aquariums.
Jumping off the roof on the trampoline. Riding go carts, minibikes, and later dirt bikes in our yards, down the street into fields and ditches.
If it wasn't a school night, my curfew was midnight and I wasn't even a teenager yet, and my two older sisters had to be home by 10pm.
We had a neighborhood pool and baseball field that was a major hangout and a lot of fun.
Once I turned 16, saying I would be staying overnight with a friend and driving to Ft Walton beach or Panama City beach with my friends who had said the same thing.
Sneaking out of the house late at night to drink beer with friends and usually but not always not getting caught.
Playing high school and jr. high football and partying with some of the team and cheerleaders after the games.
Definitely the best times.

My grandma smoking on the plane. Going to the store down the street to buy cigarettes when I was like 8. Playing smear the queer. Sitting Indian style. Telling nig jokes. Nig knocking. Respect for a republican president.

I can't tell you how long it has been since I've seen kids riding in the back of a pickemup truck on the highway, or hell......any road.

Auto parts stores had at least one big ashtray on the counter for customers.

Having a parent say roll the window up and you actually had to roll it up.
