If you’re at the median income level in this state you can qualify for Medicaid with only 2 kids.

That’s 70% Which if you do the math... well, they ain't all Democrat for sure.

True but if you look at SNAP, over 70% on SNAP live in Democrat dominated parishes and only a few parishes make up the majority % of SNAP recipients

Nurses were able to do a lot more when they weren't consumed by government regulations and computer charting.

frick you. The problem is American healthcare system.

Every country is paying for healthcare. They just pay for it through higher taxes. No one is working for free and supplies aren’t free in these countries with universal healthcare. They pay much higher taxes than we do, and that includes poor people.

Yea IMO if you’re going to have to rely on the government(aka the people actually paying into the system), then you should have your tubes tied after that first kid. Why should I have to pay for my kids and subsidize yours. A lot of Medicaid recipients have multiple kids, makes no sense.

Because if hospitals stated that they actually just want $90, Medicare/Medicaid would simply pay 20% of that amount anyway.

That’s not how this works, if that was the case why wouldn’t the hospital just charge 10k for the procedure

I wouldn’t have a kid if I didn’t have an insured plan from my employer or be independently wealthy.

I’d be fine with every kid being on Medicaid. Such a low risk pool.

The dynamics of keeping health insurance for your family is very restrictive on business and entrepreneurship. Would be great if that were taken out of the equation, more people could self-insure.

This board amazes me in its stupidity. If you think our healthcare system is great, just wait till one of you or one of your family members is dying from a curable disease or cancer and you have a choice of paying millions even with insurance or watching them die. For those who keep calling me poor, you know knowing of me and my career. I can’t believe how heartless you all are. I think you all enjoy watching people suffer and struggle .

The issue is that everyone in the US receives adequate health care....but many never pay a penny for their own so everyone else has to foot the bill. We are not going to tolerate providers not providing regardless of ability to pay because we are too good hearted in general to do so. WHy we do not simply provide everyoone with basic health care and eliminate the lawyers and collections efforts from the equation is beyond me. We all are paying for those who do not pay now...and we are also paying for the lawyers who collect the unpaid debt. It is idiotic to continue to pretend otherwise simply to facilitate the sick, twisted desire some of us have to see people suffer....

My daughter was diagnosed with Leukemia at 2 years old. She got automatic medicaid benefits to pick up what the wifes insurance didn't cover. (We never applied). Fast forward 2 years the wife is now only working part time to be able to help and transport to treatment and whatnot. We get a letter that her benefits are no longer active because of my income. So now that's another whole paycheck a month gone just to ensure she gets the proper treatment since I have to add her to my insurance and the wife no longer has hers.

Rant over

Hospitals break even on Medicare and Medicaid

Generally, hospitals make money on Medicare, with the exception of outliers. There are way too many Medicare patients to actually make it all up on private insurance. Hospitals lose a ton of money in the ER. Low reimbursement there and so much bad debt walking in through your doors.

Explain yourself here

Louisiana’s program started in July 2016. Adults ages 19 to 64 with incomes up to 138% of the federal poverty level — about $16,750 annually for a single adult or $28,680 for a family of three — are eligible for coverage. The federal government pays nearly all the Medicaid expansion cost. State lawmakers passed a tax on health maintenance organizations and hospital fees to cover the state’s share.

The Democratic governor said thousands of people have been newly diagnosed with hypertension, diabetes and cancer because of expansion. He credits the billions in federal tax dollars received with spurring health industry job growth. And he touts Census data showing 8% of Louisiana’s residents are without health insurance, lower than the national average and below the uninsured rate of neighboring non-expansion states.

“Expanding Medicaid is the biggest, easiest decision that I’m going to make as governor,” Edwards said. “Unlike the other Southern states across the country, Louisiana has not had a single rural hospital to close. And that’s due in large part to the Medicaid expansion.”

read a couple pages and biggest thing i see from those saying they are on it are

1) they are poor

2) they are poor because they made bad decisions throughout life. you can see it in this thread, most lack impulse control

3) they had kids young which is a bad decision if you are not already established

4) most people on medicaid are on it because they are single moms and most kids in this state today are born to single moms

i dunno why this all so surprising to some though. its not a racial issue either as i would guess that 50% of those on medicaid are white. the issue is

1) lack of nuclear families or father figure
2) lack of education

less than 1 in 3 have a college degree in the state and only 8.5% of HOUSEHOLDS make 100k or more in the state.

all these numbers are depressing AF. State is fricked
