I come across a lot of people on disability through the course of my job and i can’t for the life of me figure out what their “disability” is.

right, but back in the day the nurses did what the cna and techs do now also plus the other nurse duties
That nurse back then didn’t have the mountains of documentation that legally must be done now on every single patient.
She didn’t have to deal with the numerous visitors for each patient that can also be demanding of her time (visitation was MUCH more restricted now the patient’s third cousin from another state insists on visiting them in the hospital).
Also…back then the patients weren’t as sick now. Patients are much more complex care wise. Insurance isn’t letting you stay in the hospital overnight now unless something is really wrong.

the amount of documentation and hoops you have to jump through due to lawsuits is also much greater.
I’m not diminishing nurses at all - it’s the whole systems that are what’s all messed up

One thing not mentioned at all in this thread is disability designates. And I guarantee we all know some and how much bullshite that can be.
Is this along the lines of illegitimate ADHD/autism spectrum diagnoses for kids, qualifying for Medicare? Not talking about the autistic kid who is minimally verbal, but the “weird” high functioning kid who is into video games?
The disability process is a mystery to me. Some folks with a stroke and significant hemiparesis get denied, while an ambulatory patient with lower back pain or obesity gets approved. I know disability attorneys exist, but is there some secret backroad/system thru a network that fasttracks the back pain patient to qualifying for disability?

Wife has casually mentioned different things to her in regards to food stamps
She mentioned frozen vegetables on sale at Winn Dixie 2/3.00 so she stocked up
Wife told her they are 98 cents at WalMart all the time
We have distanced ourselves from them since

Jesus, what a clusterfrick that is. Even NPR ran a somewhat scathing article on disability abuse way back 10-15 years ago if I recall. The article described how entire communities were basically on disability as a way of life. Heathy kids, healthy adults. And I’ve met such people myself. Hey kids, act crazy so you get a check.

It’s all a mess bc people aren’t allowed to do their jobs and everyone has to get what they want (regarding visiting)

See, this is why subjects like this can never be discussed. And as seen already, racial lines are drawn as well when we all know damn well it's not one group using, needing and/or gaming the system. This includes my experience in rural Texas as well as an edit. Just not Louisiana.
bullshite. This has absolutely nothing to do with race. It has to do with dumbasses of all stripes that have fricking kids they can’t provide for. Be fricking responsible and don’t make life changing decisions you can’t handle. It’s not that hard.

There fking has to be some secret pathway or some doc who will certify people for a bribe. I see whole families on it with not a damn thing wrong with them then paraplegics like GreenRock’s dad who can’t get it.

When there is real significant incentive for my wife and I to get a "divorce," there's a very severe problem with the system.

I’ve represented people in Social Security disability claims. It’s an absurdly byzantine process that doesn’t lead to consistent results.
The bureaucracy and incompetence at the Administration has gotten so bad the last year or so that I’ve completely stopped taking cases. I refer them out.

We spend twice as much a year on healthcare as the next closest country and have worse results there’s no excuse for that.
Now figure in the extra taxes. Remember most countries with socialized medicine have waaayyyy more contributors per capita than we do.

Don’t have kids if you can’t provide. It’s as easy as deciding whether to buy a car. It’s not like it just fricking happens.

It's unreal. A few years ago I briefly dated a disability lawyer in Tyler. She was compensated on the acceptances. Her track record was amazing and had a thriving 3 person practice. But she admitted it was all a big formula in how to get there. A well executed playbook. She was pretty cute, funny and smart... she had a sloppy 2 red wine bottle habit that showed itself or I may still be happy with her
(Can give the name if anyone needs the service. She's good)

Our neighbors probably pay about 2500$ a month for their home, since they bought in a year ago. But we received their mail for Louisiana childcare assistance application.

Hospital administrators fricked up by using Press-Gainey scores and other subjective measures of satisfaction/healthcare quality (patient/family satisfaction with provider), instead of objective measures (readmission rates, days in hospital, hospital acquired infection rates) to determine the “quality of care” and often times using these subjective metrics to determine bonuses/increased compensation for providers
