Article is about some people no longer having coverage.
But buried in the article is this nugget.
What an absolute failure of the adults in our state, that so many of them need the government to provide health insurance for their kids.

Seven in ten children in Louisiana were covered by Medicaid by early this year. Only New Mexico has a higher rate of children who rely on Medicaid for health care.

Now do adults.
My guess would be 45-55%.

frick you. The problem is American healthcare system. A family of four can easily pay over 20 thousand dollars. I guess you rather kids die than get adequate health care even if it’s from the gov
This board amazes me in its stupidity. If you think our healthcare system is great, just wait till one of you or one of your family members is dying from a curable disease or cancer and you have a choice of paying millions even with insurance or watching them die. For those who keep calling me poor, you know knowing of me and my career. I can’t believe how heartless you all are. I think you all enjoy watching people suffer and struggle .

Over 60% of babies born in Louisiana are to mothers on Medicaid. And over half are born to unwed mothers. This state is fricked.

Because our extreme left wing wacko governor changed the requirements. Put them back like they were before the idiot took office.

This is single mothers.
Which has become a huge problem even though we have the pill.
Maybe promoting sexual freedom and promiscuity was a bad idea.

I’d rather kid’s parents prioritize health over the newest IPhone and Jordan’s for their child. They could absolutely pay for the necessities in life if they cut out the pork to stop keeping up with the Jones’.
But personal responsibility is too much to ask I guess.

You sound like you have a low IQ and low impulse control.
The reason "regular" healthcare costs so much is because it has to subsidize all the freeloaders. Medicaid will say "we only pay $35 for Procedure X" and when Procedure X actually costs the provider $55 to provide, the have to make up that money by gouging the "regular" people. It's socialized medicine by proxy.

People need to stop having children they can't take care of. I realize good people fall on hard times but otherwise you shouldn't breed.

Then procedure x should be $35 for everyone - this is where the government should step in - charges are the hospital’s discretion - the hospital is accepting that Medicaid will only pay $35 bc the procedure only costs $10 to begin with
$75 for a Tylenol is a little excessive

The solution is to get a job with medical benefits. Many of us waited to get married and have families until we had health coverage through work.

See, this is why subjects like this can never be discussed. And as seen already, racial lines are drawn as well when we all know damn well it's not one group using, needing and/or gaming the system. This includes my experience in rural Texas as well as an edit. Just not Louisiana.

Hospitals break even on Medicare and Medicaid. They definitely make it up on people with private insurance.
