frick you. The problem is American healthcare system. A family of four can easily pay over 20 thousand dollars. I guess you rather kids die than get adequate health care even if it’s from the gov
The middle class essentially pays for everything, and if it’s elimated by ridiculously high costs of healthcare, insurance, taxes, etc, this country will be in deep shite.

Don’t make me call you poor too. I’ll do it, I swear!
But for real, it’s a tough issue. Healthcare is expensive but necessary. The private sector sucks and I don’t trust the government to do any better.

Most of the people I know on Medicaid choose to be so they don’t have to pay for their kids healthcare which is why they won’t get married.

And Louisiana wants them on Medicaid for the federal $$$

I work and I pay 2k a month for insurance for four of us. I’m not sure why people think my employer should provide insurance why is it their problem? The issue is definitely the us healthcare system it’s way to expensive. We spend twice as much a year on healthcare as the next closest country and have worse results there’s no excuse for that.

Si Se Puede. This is 20 years old with sCHIP. There are more Hondurans in New Orleans than there are anywhere else outside of Honduras.

I have Medicaid. I work hard, but I don’t make much

What happens when the "regular" people are finally outnumbered by the "medicaid" people?
What happens to the whole system when there's more people in the wagon than who's pulling the wagon?
This goes back to what OP says. More than half of the children are on socialized medicine? That's a problem.
And it's not a healthcare problem. It's a civilization problem.

Then procedure x should be $35 for everyone - this is where the government should step in - charges are the hospital’s discretion - the hospital is accepting that Medicaid will only pay $35 bc the procedure only costs $10 to begin with
Good luck finding a physician willing to do a procedure x for $10, or even $35. Why would someone go to med school and risk liability for something that may go wrong for the cost of a range of two happy meals or 4 fast food combo meals?

The solution is to get a job with medical benefits.
All those people leaving Louisiana year after year are doing just that

I’d rather kid’s parents prioritize health over the newest IPhone and Jordan’s for their child. They could absolutely pay for the necessities in life if they cut out the pork to stop keeping up with the Jones’.
1 ER visit with no insurance = 2-3 iPhones.

Do you really think an hour with a general practitioner is worth $375?

There's a place for Medicaid. I'm trying to get a family member on it right now so I don't have to keep paying the medical bills, until he gets on his feet again, which he has done very well at over the last year. I'm not a scrooge.
But 70% of kids in LA on socialized medicine? That's fricked.
Not 8%. Not 22%.
70% is fricking insane.

Come with me to a Walmart in my Texas neck of the woods. Then, we'll go to a Louisiana one. If we sat and talked about what the issues are, poor education and drive is going to be number one. Race, political party etc will be much more secondary. Lazy, stupid and poor is a virus.

Resources could be spent on you. Or they can be used on someone that showed up three weeks ago. Choose, and vote appropriately.

I question that number overall but LA is a massive welfare state. Most of us love big government and social programs.

I listened to my department head discuss it a few years back and it’s a percentage, not a dollar amount that entities, like Medicaid, will pay.
The hospital increases the cost because Medicaid/Medicare will only pay 20-30% anyway.
It isn’t a defined amount, but instead a percentage of the charge. It may even be less than the 20-30% quoted above, and it is constantly decreasing.
