Crockpot for the win. Makes enough for leftovers if you're not too uppity to eat leftovers.

Just to show how insane this is , let’s assume a family of 5 never eats out and skips breakfast completely

It’s costing $350 a week in groceries. This country is fricked

$1400 a month in groceries!

I can easily do this

I would hope so. It's the average cost of a home cooked meal.

The point is that $5 per person for a homecooked meal is high. We all know meals exist that are lower per person. Those meal are below average costs.

How is this a debate?

But you said for $25 you can make a smash burger that feeds 8 people better than any restaurant.

Splurge on some Annie's mac& cheese and I can introduce you to a 2 year old that will eat that 2-3 times a day

I used to cook at home a lot more often when my employer allowed for a 2/3 hybrid home/office schedule. Then they caught the "rah rah RETURN TO WORK" bug and the wfh days went to zero.

So instead of using the 45 minutes after I get off to start dinner; I'm stuck in traffic.

You can certainly do it with Walmart groceries and frozen food but will also be slowly poisoning everyone

Restaurants and our government are to blame and did it to themselves.

Government printed $ out of thin air causing massive inflation, and restaurants compounded the cost by price gouging when they didn’t have to.

frick ‘em.

Many medium-higher end restaurants have cut back on food quality, IMO.

Meats and greens are not nearly as good as they were.

I guess they're relying on the "experience " of eating there, IDK.

When I said "The point of going out isn't to get food better than you can make yourself at home."

Your reply was "For me it is."

So which is it? You can make a smashburger better than any restaurant or going out is to get food better than you can make yourself at home?

The rise in groceries to me in the last 5 years has been the scariest thing . Grocery trips have basically DOUBLED. And certainly salaries haven’t. And real Americans feel groceries almost more than anything

Absolutely. Any butchered meat (chicken breast, steaks, pork chops) have all gone up significantly. Beef is crazy expensive compared to what it was.

Any time I go to the grocery store it seems like I’m dropping $60 if I need to get protein. I try to Sat away from the middle of the store too

Hamburger helper went from an affordable meal for a family of 4 to absolutely ridiculous just before adding salad and bread.

Just started raising chickens for meat - can’t wait. My friends been doing it for years, and it’s way cheaper than store bought and the flavor is out of this world.

Produce? Go to a farmer's market.

I don't know where you live, but in Houston, produce at a farmer's market is quite a bit more expensive than regular grocery stores. It's better quality. But they sell it at a premium. I think it's higher because of the quality, the "experience of purchasing", and the popularity of having "farm to table" dishes.
