I don’t believe for a second that cooking at home has increased since 2003

Real world data says otherwise

38% don't cook at home, even breakfast?
No wonder a significant percentage can't afford things they think are other necessities (like a savings account).

It is becoming a necessity at this point. It will be interesting to watch as the restaurant boom of the past decade or so has oversaturated the eating out market. I wonder if an uptick in restaurants going under has already started?

A rotisserie chicken at Sam's is $5 and will feed a family of 5 easily.

I always love these answers

You could also just get ground beef and eat only that

The American dream; splitting rotisserie chickens to have affordable at home family meals

I always love the comments this type of post creates.

I’m sure people could eat beans and rice or Raman and it would be way cheaper but no one is gonna do that.

I meal prep every week and eating healthy and lean foods is not cheap at all. Buying steaks, chicken, and sausage for the meat parts of my food pisses me off at what they cost, especially the steaks.

Folks aren’t going to eat chicken and rice for every meal.

How much of that “cooking” is just reheating UberEats?

When my wife and I got married 5 years ago I was the most helpless man alive cooking wise. I was proud of myself just to scramble eggs in the morning.

Lately I've been enjoying cooking a little more. Making food from scratch via hunting and fishing more helps the satisfaction of it all.

I love cooking, i always have. I treat it more like a hobby with an immediate payoff.

Once i learned i can cook as good if not better than most restaurants, the prospect of eating out has waned. Not to mention the cost for a family of 4 just to get burgers is over $60. Meanwhile, $25 and i make smashburgers better than any restaurant that can feed 8 people.

Considering how expensive a simple lunch for one is, this isn't hard to grasp. Any place thats actually good is easily over $20.00 for lunch.
Much cheaper to cook on Sunday and eat leftovers. Usually better tasting and a lot better for you , too.

I’ve admittedly cut back to include meatless meals. Lentil soup, black beans and rice, veggie curries, etc. to cut some cost. Grass fed beef is expensive.

You and gaypride87 are so dense. It's an example of options for very cheap meals that can feed a family. Instead, they are eating fast food 4 nights a week.
