Pretty sure they are still around. They still have offices here.

With less than 10 people left in said offices.

I’m 4 weeks into a new gig in Houston. Left a smaller company in Austin, but actually still live in Austin and will continue to until I transfer to the Denver office in a couple of years. Drive in to Houston on Monday morning and home on Thursday nights. Work from home on Friday.

Loved my stint in Houston the first time, and still think it’s a good city, but living in Austin for a couple years has me spoiled by outdoor activities, clean streets, clean air and clean water.

I think you know the answer to this. You move out as a single man and you’re going to be fighting for the few female engineers or field engineers around there. Otherwise you should just get your experience and dart out if you want to settle down

No, I didn't know that it was a huge sausage fest out there. Doesn't sound like a wise move for a single dude.

Are you with an operator? I'm on the service side and have been in the Pittsburgh area for about 2.5 years now. I've been trying to find some other LSU folks in this area.

I interned for a Deepwater Operator this summer. They have more work than they know what to do with, and it also sounded like that was the case with every other operator.

Clean streets? Huh? Are you sure you're in Austin?

Clean water? Wtf? Have you been living in fricking Mexico or something?

Clean air? Austin has pretty bad pollen year round.

I’ve been here 2 months, but I don’t know if there is an LSU bar here yet.

But my home bar is Le Mardi Gras. Go figure. I’ll probably be there if you want to watch the tigers kill the hurricanes.

As I sit offshore about 100 miles south of Mobile Bay, I can tell you that you're wrong.
Just finished tying back 2 new wells, drillship heading back out next month, and 3 life extension projects going on simultaneously on deck right now.

This is something that I would gladly be wrong about. Great sign

Thought the oilfield shite was getting better? Apparently not in Laffy?

All the guys you listed would generally be associated with drilling. SHelf drilling is dying a slow death, all the offshore work is deepwater. That is generally handled out of Covington, New Orleans, and Houston. With most of the support going out of GI/Galliano/Fourchon and Venice areas in Louisiana. Lafayette is just not as good a location for any of that anymore.

If you're in production and working primarily shiftwork or providing operations support on the shelf for smaller operators. There is still a good bit of work around Laffy.

Depends if you're looking to settle down or not. If you're just looking to get your dick wet there's a ton of thirsty women looking to get just a bit of the oilfield check. Keep them at arms length, and you can have a lot of fun.

know that Midland is quite remote and I've always been curious about a locale so remote.

I figure that it could still be a great place to live and raise a family. UNLESS I'm wrong because there are not enough human females to approach a decent 50/50 balance.

It the area a huge sausage factory or do they have enough cowgirls to go around?

Advert

If you like Mexican women and theres enough of them to go around then Yes theres enough to go around

SHelf drilling is dying a slow death, all the offshore work is deepwater.

And Shell deepwater has moved to Houston. I have friends on Vito.

Good old New Orleans down to zero oil companies in the city. Good thing for the tourism.
