Was also talking to a guy I know that sells similar services as me for shelf work. He's been getting blasted with work the last few months. At least compared to the last few years. It's not quite the insanity it was back in 2012-2013ish. But I'm not really worried about getting laid off for the first time in years.

Yep, problem is the state suing companies has killed off the drilling in state waters. Everything a full go out of TX, and of course deep water.

In the process of bidding like 10 wells in deepwater right now. Literallymore than I've turned in quotesfor over the last 4 years combined.
My in-laws own an offshore service company. Work is picking back up for them right now too.

Its all about the shale in PA. The problem is that it is hard AF to get a midstream pipeline built to get it to market in PA.
In LA I can do a drawing on a cocktail napkin, pay a $25 fee and get a permit for 100 miles of pipe, in PA it takes about 3 years and $50 mil in design costs.

you work for NYL in the old Conoco building?

Their company is probably just not getting it done in terms of gaining back market share. Says less about the market than it does about their employers ability to adapt.

No. Stockbroker in another building.

Sound like you don’t understand how profit margins work. Land oil cost a third of what deep water oil cost to produce.

I think that's their game plan... they mentioned Pennsylvania too.
I don't know anything at all about the O&G bidness (beyond what I've learned here, of course -- Thanks!), but given that choice, I'd be showing Texas my arse and heading north at warp speed.

Shale gas and oil. Ohio and Pennsylvania.

I will pass that along. Thanks.

That's odd. The only interviews (and 75% of job openings) I've been getting are from oilfield supply companies. I've heard nothing but positive things about the industry from higher-ups. That is mainly offshore stuff.

IIRC, the guy told me they're looking at the whole "Ring of Fire" in the Pacific. Guyana was just an accidental discovery. The Mediterranean thing was completely unexpected also

Lagcoe is leaving Lafayette, and moving to NOLA. Probably not a big big deal, but more evidence that the Lafayette area is not, and likely will not recover & return to past glory in the O/G industry.
