If this were the case, you would see a significantly larger portion of US players getting TJ vs. players from the DR and other latin american countries. That's not the case.
so there are more TJ surgeries performed in the DR and other latin american countries?

quote:This is usually my main point in these threads. It’s not “bad” mechanics that are causing more arm problems; it’s actually “good” mechanics. We know how to get young kids to throw really hard. Theres so much data involved that they are being taught how to maximize speed earlier and earlier. It’s not quantity that is causing the uptick. It’s the quality. A kid who is 16, throwing 90 mph 25 times an outing is more damaging than the same kid throwing 85 mph 50 times.
2) the emphasis on velocity and spin rates are just not compatible with biometrics. This is not really a symptom of travel ball as much as it is a symptom of technological advances at the MLB and college level that have trickled down into youth baseball that have pushed athletes beyond physical limitations.

It's about the same as the US.

That 16 percent of pitchers from the US had undergone Tommy John surgery – as had 16 percent of pitchers from the Dominican, and 16 percent from all Latin American countries.
“We saw no difference,” Conte said. “At the end of the day, when you look at who has had Tommy John surgeries, country doesn’t seem to have a significant importance.
“Whether they come from the Dominican or the United States, it looks like they’re all kind of getting it at some point – overall, major and minor leagues, about 16 percent.”

Yep. The human body was just not designed to throw a baseball 95+ mph.

Major ortho guy down over here at the Andrews Center had a kid that played baseball with us. He refused to let his kid pitch until middle school and very limited then.

I am thinking the DR and other Latin american countries probably play year round also

Some are. The problem is that there aren't many of them in this country but everyone thinks their kid is Paul Skenes.

I had it when I was 16. That was before "travel ball", but we did have Legion ball and showcases. Still played in college and got drafted. If you pitch, it's not uncommon. And most pitchers are in that age group

Ironically, 2 years ago people would have laughed at Paul Skenes or his parents if they told someone that he was going to pitch in the MLB. He is perhaps the poster child of how far we've come in understanding the biometrics of throwing a baseball hard. Unfortunately, he very well may require TJ at some point in the near future.

You’re right I should’ve paid for it

Mickey Mantle had the ACL delete done and still reached legendary status. Kids don't need elbows

INB4 LSU777 tells you that kid not matter how talented will never make his high school team and that dr is wrong.
