Dude in the green shirt looks like he could be walking up to/talking to the girl. Barely looked at the guy until it looks like (could be wrong since the video is 3 pixels) the shooter reacts first. Then green shirt turns to him and shooter pulls and fires.

It could be nefarious but the video is nowhere clear on that. There isn't any aggressive move with a deadly weapon towards the shooter. There really isn't any aggression towards him at all.

This is a bad shoot.

Then we can talk about him murdering the kid in the black shirt, who was never anywhere near the guy, never approached the guy, and was trying to leave when he got shot.

They may or may not have been going up to rob him, but one of the guys he dropped barely even looked at him.

Exactly.

And what the "fatigue" people don't realize is this is exactly what's going to be pointed at to attack that narrative/belief, generally.

He’s definitely pointing or pointing something.

I mean maybe there is another angle/video that might clear this up but that video makes this look really bad

Yes. The video in OP is really, really bad for the shooter.

55yr old dude vs a group of youts... if he waited he'd have been rolled, curb stomped, robbed and pantsed... if not worse.

Better to be judged by 12 then carried by 6 sure. But you can't just 'feel' threatened and blast someone. That's all I'm saying. That isn't holding up in court. Especially in Chicago.

I don't doubt the kid was reaching for a weapon. If he did yeah, frick them. But just saying I was scared isn't a valid excuse to shoot someone.

The kid in the black shirt?

It doesn't look like his hands really get above his waist until he's shot and is falling to the ground

Yup, 100%.

Granting the most favorable interpretation to the shooter, you can see why he would be alarmed at strangers moving into his blind spot and starting to encircle him while he’s low to the ground working on a bike. But you don’t get to jump straight from that to killing people. Not legally, anyway.

I feel for the fact that this guy was put in a bad spot, and as with a lot of self-defense cases, there was probably no easy answer that lets everyone walk away safely.

All the same, at most you have some vaguely threatening positioning. No swinging, no drawn weapons. That just doesn’t get you to justified lethal force.

I'm betting there is some history with this one.

The assistant public defender claimed that Leto denied some teens entry to the pool because they didn't have a parent with them, and said the teens became very angry and threatened to "mess up" Leto. The assistant public defender said while closing the pool, Leto was confronted by 10 teenagers who were harassing, threatening, and following him — one of them took his bike.
The assistant public defender said the chain fell off Leto's bike and he put it upside-down to work on it, and the teens kept following him even after he ran from them at least three times. The assistant public defender claimed that Leto was in a vulnerable position on the ground with one of the teens calling him curse words when he pulled out his gun and shot the teen.

I think the video shows a guy clearly panicking. There may be another video that counteracts this, but that's what I see.

A post further back gives some background... if that post is true, this started at the pool, restarted in the parking lot when one teen harassed old dude, then left to get backup, returned... and from what we CAN see, converged on the older dude.

Old dude is doing some time, more than likely... but *if* what's been reported in this thread is true- I don't think many reasonable people familiar with black youth culture could blame him for acting fast in the moment.

You have fukkin 12 year old black kids out there carjacking people at gunpoint.

If I see a group of young black men ghetto'd out converging on me, I'm on high alert too.

Old man's gonna do time... but I don't blame him for what he did.

Chicago is lawless and black youth have made a name for themselves.

How many times does one have to run from a pack of people before using lethal force?

You can't just mow down people like that, black or white.

That kid in the black shirt did nothing except try to run.

The biggest question in this episode is WTF is that dude doing working in that environment.

Doesn't that question require it to be the same people?

There was no evidence that the people who moved the bike were the teen victims in the case, prosecutors said.

LINK

It looks like the one he had an altercation with was the one without a shirt.

The 2 who were shot had nothing to do with it, and it doesn't appear any weapons were found.
