At 56 I have small lapses of memory. I wouldn’t call it fog, and I don’t consider it anything out of the ordinary for someone my age, but there is a difference compared to 10+ years ago.

Same, my ability to recall names and remember events has certainly diminished in the last few years, but not a fog. I call it "CRS."

CRS can be convenient to have sometimes.

Ignore the advice you get here. Talk to your doctor.

in California they give you tests. they give you numbers and words to recall.
if you do bad enough they jerk your drivers license.

fog is an interesting word.
is it possible you had cv19? media says long covid has a fog aspect.

"fog" sounds way past not being able to recall a name.

If you ask me what I had for lunch on any given day later that same day I have to do mental gymnastics and create a time line in my head. I also have trouble with names. My job requires me to use my brain all the time so not sure if some other things suffer from fatigue. Other than these two things I'm pretty OK.

Be really careful with this topic once you turn 65 and on medicare. At each physical/checkup you will be asked about memory, confusion, loosing track etc. This goes into your data base, and will be used to take away your guns.

Neurology friend has told me the best thing you can do to help memory is to learn to play a musical instrument or learn a foreign language.

At 77 most of my memory lapses involve alcohol and Ambien. I like to read before going to sleep, but with just a very small dose of Ambien, the next day I get to read the 50 pages again like they were new.

A little bit of Ambien is great for fixing restless legs.

I’m 56 and notice I can’t instantly recall names of people or objects as quickly as I use to…it is frustrating because it is a noticeable decline…not as quick or sharp as I use to be.
I think it’s a natural decline and not dementia because my work has not suffered. I use Siri a lot because I can’t rest until I remember the name.

This is the kind of thing that happens to me, but I don’t see it as a memory issue. I think it’s more of a “it’s not important” thing. I still remember important stuff, but as I’ve gotten older, less things seem to be important to me.

I’m almost 62.

So far, so good.

I’ve got a family history that includes dementia, so I’m always looking out for any erosion in my mental acuity or other related faculties.

Fingers crossed.

I notice it is much worse when I drink diet drinks. I play several mental games pretty well. But like you it’s common words that won’t come to me.

I’m 51 and was experiencing this pretty bad. I recently went on a trip to the Middle East for 15 days on vacation.

On about day 10 I noticed the fog was completely gone. They only thing different, other than being away from work was that I didn’t consume any artificial sweeteners. They didn’t have them over there.

If you intake artificial sweeteners, you may want to give this a try. The difference for me has been profound.

That’s impressive. My mom was sharp and worked crossword puzzles until her health declined quickly at 77. She wasn’t doing 3 a day though.

Early 40s I started to notice a difference.

I think career and stress can play a role as well--especially if you have a demanding job. Sometimes there's just too much shite to possibly keep track of or recall instantly.

Yep, i gave up Diet Coke, or putting Extra in my coffee or anyhting with aspartame years ago becuase i started to have pretty bad effects in my 20s.. the studies on aspartame and other articulated sweeteners are mixed, but i think everyone’s reaction to them is different, and for me they are a definite no-go .
