When did you start worrying about your mental sharpness and memory.

I don't know what the deal is, but lately it seems everything if foggy. Like the other day for the life of me I couldn't remember the word Leprosy. I was telling someone about how Armadillos carry the disease and should be bare handed and just could not think of the word.

The more I have thought about it the more I am wondering wtf is going on. My dad has been very sharp into his 80s but damn it has me thinking.

Is there memory "games" I should be playing to sharpen up?

I prefer my armadillos to wear gloves.

This may sound crazy but if you snore or even if you think you might, get a sleep study. Sleep apnea impairs memory, causes brain fog and is more common as you get older. Can’t hurt.

Nothing will keep you more mentally sharp than staying in great shape. Get that heart rate up and the O2 flowing, baw.

At 56 I have small lapses of memory. I wouldn’t call it fog, and I don’t consider it anything out of the ordinary for someone my age, but there is a difference compared to 10+ years ago.

Mentioned the same concerns to my doctor.

Answer—> More sleep +drink more water+exercise.

Never had an issue it until I started chemo. Waiting to see if there is a rebound. I hope there is.

I think mental sharpness is mostly hereditary as you age. I am 69 and other than a few short memory lapses, I do well. But, other than my paternal grandfather, I don't know of any other family member who suffered from memory loss. His was more delusional than memory.

I am divorced but when I was staying at my son's he claimed I snored like crazy.

I will look into that. I definitely don't want to be on a sleep machine though.

I do exercise and drink damn near a gallon of water everyday and would consider myself in pretty decent shape.

I'm 81, and, of course, have to grope for words on occasion. I try to stay mentally alert by working a few crossword puzzles every day, watching jeopardy and wheel, and writing a new book. I stay in shape physically and eat healthy (most of the time).

Despite that, I do have memory loss associated with my age, but I just have to live with it.

one of the reasons I keep working is to keep my mental game sharp, my dad died with Alzheimer’s, his dad and mom had it too, they just didn’t call it that back then, I am forever looking for signs because I refuse to put my family through that hell

I’m not sure I understand the question. 10+ years ago was simply an estimate.

Too late, you need to ask when folks have their kids. By 50+ you are asking past the window.

Ignore the advice you get here. Talk to your doctor.
