Closest I ever came to death was coming hot around a switchback on the way down roan mountain and nearly burned all the rubber off my brakes trying to keep from going off the side of a cliff on the opposite side.

Honestly I was at peace to some degree because I could only cut the wheel so much without flipping the bike and actually rubbed the guardrail asi finally slowed enough to get control. I think if I had panicked more I would have lost it completely. The close quarters crit racing skills I had been practicing paid off.

Stupid I know and if a car had been coming I would be dead.

Yes, there are minimum limits. They are usually around 15 under. Below that, you're considered to be a hazard

Not saying it's not true, as I don't know for a fact. But I'd have to see this one to believe it. I know it's legal for tractors to ride on the road and they can't nearly keep up the speed limit.

Yes I know what the word "limit" means. I also know what the word "impeding" means and impeding traffic is a traffic violation.

Then you do realize that if someone needs to be going "at least" the speed limit, then you are saying they can only be going "exactly" the speed limit without breaking the law, right?

Rarely happens, and only for a short period in agricultural areas. When I've run equipment on the road, I always had a chase car and was halfway on the road. Got off ASAP.

You should expect to get hit riding 20 in a 55, and nobody would be charged because it's illegal

I hate the way the headline of articles are written.

Could they not just say, " 5 Things Cyclists Do THAT You Didn't Know Are Perfectly Legal."

I bet simply driving your vehicle everyday is nearly as big a risk

nah...getting hit by a 2,000 lb vehicle while on a bicycle has to be more dangerous than when riding in a car

valuing your life makes you a boring person?

And I'm not talking about some crazy busy road

I am...riding on lightly traveled roads is much safer and not as risky

I know people who ride motorcycles that do most of their riding on lesser traveled roads...I consider them to be smart

I'm not aware of any 2000lb made-for-the-street vehicles. Usually 3250-7000lbs.

It's stupid either way you put it.

And that video is why I side with cyclist in these argument most of the time. That inbred hick didn't have to do anything to avoid that guy other than move over. Didn't even look like he had to slow down. I typically think people extremely over exaggerate their issues because of their annoyance as shown in that redneck video.

Have you ever complained about someone going slow in the left lane? What about someone who doesn't put on their blinker to turn? I'd say yes, because they are both inconsiderate

It is inconsiderate to ride on a busy road for sure. What that guy in the video was doing was not a big deal at all.

One or two on that list doesn't apply to LA.

Here's a list of LA cycling laws

too soon for a Lance joke? But yeah, I agree. It should be the rule, but i would also try to avoid needing it.

I have basically given up on road biking in any form of traffic. luckily MT/ID have some great all-cyclist paths/lanes.

Things they do that are illegal:

1. Run stop signs
2. Run red lights
3. Not have lights on their bike

I drive down Marconi Blvd in Nola's city park 4 times a day. It is a very popular street for cyclists. One time I saw a cyclist stop at the stop sign at filmore. If I were to put a conservative number on how many times I see cyclists blow through it, I would guess over 1,000. Granted, it is generally a safe corner as there are no obstructions blocking their view, however I usually have to slow down, then wait for an opportunity to pass them safely, just to have them pass me again while I stop at the sign, just for me to do the same slow down to pas routine again. It really frustrates me how inconsiderate they are about it. If they want to ride their bike without stopping, there are plenty of places they could do that in the city
