IIRC it's paved from the Jefferson parish line to Audubon Zoo. also, real men ride mountain bikes or beach cruisers anyway...

you hate cyclists because of critical mass, which is 99% made up of hipsters who couldn't ride in a real pace line to save their lives.
You don't hate cyclists because you don't know who cyclists are.

I like to ride though. I will ride from Kenner to a friend's in the Touro area and back, but I use the levee for 75% of the ride.
Lake levee to the lake to river path and river levee to the city.
I like the work-out I get on my heavy arse seven speed wide tired beach cruiser. I also use the mountain bike sometimes because it's so light and less stress on long rides.

There are tons of legal things you can do in this country that if done make you an a-hole.

are you saying cyclists do not participate? I would bet a few in this thread have ridden in it...they defend it

I'm from BR. I didn't truly appreciate New Orleans until I rode a bike around the city. Drinking and riding a bike on a Sunday morning is the shite.

An OT cycling thread. These always go over like turd in a punch bowl.
Definitely. There's another message board I read that has a very strong cycling presence. It's funny to see it from the other side. There are actually a lot of people who are hard on other cyclists and the stupid things they do. But there are also an equal number of horror stories about drivers that you see on this site about cyclists. You have your stop sign runners here, and you've got beer bottle chuckers there. People are shitbags no matter which way you look at it.

I got tired of gears and shite breaking or squeaking, so I went with the single speed beach cruiser. Couldn't be happier.

I have about a half dozen friends that I ride with. Not a single one of us have ever participated in critical mass, that be in Baton Rouge, Lafayette or Houston.
It's a joke. They even have skateboarders, unicycles and rollerblades participating these days. Half of the bikes are BMX bikes and fixies. That's not a cyclist. That's a person with a bike.

I agree. My point being is if i was a cyclist I wouldn't ride there.
FWIW I'm talking cyclist in spandex. Not hipsters on beach cruisers.

Angry drivers will never understand the view point of a cyclist until the day they are out there on a bike.
My own family bitches about cyclists on the road, and I am one of those cyclist.
All I can say is have some heart, you are in a large, metal car that can seriously kill someone. There is no need to swerve or "show cyclists who really owns the road". Not worth a life.

Lots of cyclist envy in here. You mad you don't have these calves bro?
I am pretty confident no one here envies a cyclist. People either hate them or just feel sorry for them.

Well I don't hate the ones riding down a public street....I don't understand it because I think its a huge risk to take.

who does this? What I see the most is people swerving because they didn't see or expect a cyclist to be on the road. It's stressful for the people in cars to you know...I am always worried that one will wipeout and I will hit them...our roads suck.

I am a biker who rides primarily on rural roads. As for #1...while it is completely legal, my wife and I choose to ride in single file...and on the right hand side of our lane when there is traffic coming behind us...as a courtesy to them. We wave them around as we crest hills when there is no oncoming traffic, etc. It makes me mad to be driving and have a pair (or more) of cyclists ahead of me hogging the road and making no attempt to allow me to get by them. So...we try to practice that courtesy at all times even if we legally don't have to.

Well that is actually kind of you to be worried, seriously.
And yes, people in trucks will get closer to a biker just to be an a-hole. I have had cars go flying past me with PLENTY of space on the other side, yet they are about 2 feet away from me. It completely rattles you. I would say 50% of people who do that, do it on purpose because they think the road is theirs and I don't belong on it. The other 50% are probably distracted drivers, which is equally rattling.

spend some time on a bike. I've never had people come very close. But the lanes where I typically ride, there truly is enough room to put your tire close to the yellow line, but stay in the lane, and you give me enough room. I've had cars fly by close when there weren't even cars coming the other way. They floor it just to "show who's boss". There are A LOT of assholes out there.
Can't resize this massive picture for some reason. My new toy

Fancy.
Now where can I get a cyclist shirt that is a solid normal looking color instead of 50 colors and tons of advertisements/logos?
