That’s more of the Turquoise crowd… but I still don’t understand why. With a jet or cooter you should be branching out further.

For Mississippi’s part, they’ve gotten a lot if not most of their I-10 miles upgraded very well.
LA has been chipping away at the 10/12 corridor as well. But with so many miles in comparison to MS and AL, it’s an uphill climb. Imagine the cost of widening the Basin Bridge. But, I do think we could see a fully 3 laned I-12 in our lifetimes.

Couldn’t agree more with this. Interstates through Kentucky are almost exclusively 6 lanes. It is ridiculous that, at least, we don’t have 3 lanes in each direction between New Orleans and Lafayette - much less all the way to Destin.
Lots of great political leadership over the decades….

People don’t realize how easy it is to spot these exaggerations. People tell me they own a $5 million vacation home and then complain about their flight in coach class. Same with people saying they fly private but stay in budget accommodations.

Baton Rouge new bridge and Mobile tunnel have to be the biggest engineering mistakes since interstates have been built.
No way having to drop below 45 on an interstate, even with no traffic, is a good design. IMO they can’t dismantle the Mobile tunnel and build a bridge fast enough.

I have a unhealthy hatred for traffic ever since Katrina hit. I'm gonna have a heart attack one day from the anger

It is mainly those damn 18 wheelers. A lot of them have governors on their accelerator so they can't go faster than seventy miles an hour.
It's two things mainly:
1) Slow left lane drivers - Somehow some way the whole idea that the left lane is only for passing and not kicking back for a nice slow Sunday drive is completely lost on way too many people. As Big Earle would say.."Get out of the left lane you stupid sumbitch...."
2) People scared of the Mobile tunnel - It's actually pretty rare for the tunnel traffic to get backed up due to an accident which means people are practically slowing down to a dead stop near the tunnel for some reason.
It's as if people are afraid the tunnel is some sort of time portal or black hole that is taking them into another dimension and they'll never re-emerge at the other end. Ever since they closed the I-110/Water Street access ramp to the tunnel there's no excuse for traffic to slow down to almost a complete stop entering the tunnel. The Mobile bridge will be built in time to ease it a good bit of congestion for everyone's grandkids and great grandkids though
8 lanes throughout Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and as far east as Tallahassee, Florida would make a tremendous difference though.

Needs to be all the way through Louisiana.
That's an understatement as it's the only interstate that touches all three US coasts (East, West & Gulf). As such, it's a major artery for travel/transportation so it needs at least that sort of expansion along its entire route (including 12).

no reason it shouldn't be a bridge instead of a tunnel.
Honking your horn on a bridge just isn't the same.

That’s the plan. You can see or satellite, or when you drive it, that they’ve already widened all the bridges between the Satsuma exit and the Albany exit in preparation to 3x3 I-12 one day. It makes the project a lot easier if the bridges are already built. After that it’s really just I-55 to Covington and some between Covington and Slidell. They also need to rebuild the 12/55 interchange to a high speed stack to replace the dangerous cloverleaf.
They need to do that with the 12/Airline interchange in BR too. No idea how that cloverleaf if still there when it’s 100% of the reason for BR traffic on I-12 in the afternoon.

You don’t think a New Orleans near the French quarter to say almost anywhere, like Baton Rouge, Dallas, or even Orlando would not be utilized? Or a train C’mon now.
You can not accommodate the number of automobiles on the road with future growth of population.
Look at Atlanta. Look at most of California, look at Baton Rouge I/12 even. It’s only going to get worse and the infrastructure can’t support.
The move to remote work delayed it but with that ending, the infrastructure for rail from city centers to suburbs is needed more than ever.
Or tunnels or flying cars ??

This board is retarded and thinks any kind of mass transit is gay and woke. In 2036 the interstate will be 7 lanes in each direction and they'll swear that 8th lane will be the one that finally defeats traffic

Where do you live? Honest question, and I’m asking because Houston, area of NOLA outside the FQ, and BR outside of downtown are not walkable cities. Mass public transportation requires walkable cities

I totally agree. It'd be a nightmare to just plop a train route onto those cities without any kind of prep. It's why I'm also a big proponent of walkable cities. I think regional lines with major stops (like the Mardi Gras line that Amtrak is rolling out) is a good idea if the cities themselves can be retrofitted with good intercity transit. I'd argue New Orleans could be in a great spot if they lean into their streetcar network.
