This is the type of guy who just needs to move to an island resort where no one knows him, be a waiter and ponder how he royally fricked up.

While the underlying topic of worthless degrees is worthy of discussion, this is clearly fake. Biggest tip is they applied to ULL. Only an absolutely massive, and likely private, university is going to have a tenured position for some alleged speciality. Further, unless the individual has mental issues, the notion that someone with a PhD, even in a worthless discipline, cannot find better than minimum wage work just isn’t credible. They won’t be making much money, but they can at least compete to manage a Starbucks or teach Psych 101 at a community college as an adjunct.

I am amazed at the people who continue to major in philosophy though. Unless you're on a tenured teaching track, it's not something you want to rack up a lot of debt. Most philosophy majors appear to be marxist though.

Honest question, what jobs are available for a Philosophy major besides teaching Philosophy.

Not only that, there's like 100,000 colleges in the US. Is he just that terrible at interviewing that he can't get a job at atleast one of them.

Part of me feels like this story is either made up, or just exaggerated.

Also, unless you attended only out-of-state private schools while getting absolutely zero scholarships or grants the entire time, I don't even think 450k debt is even plausible.

I think he was sort of a predecessor to the existentialists (Heidegger, Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir, etc.)

The ideas that would become famous due to the work of those later philosophers hadn't quite crystalized into their final form in Husserl's time, leaving us with less-than-enduring sentiments such as "God is limping; we roughed Him up" and "Hell is doing other people's laundry."

Nobody is hiring a fricking philosophy major for 70 or 80K out of school unless it is some government money wasting bullshite.
