There was no crossfire. Cartel rolled up to this van at a stoplight after they crossed the border, unloaded a couple hundred rounds into them, then dragged them out on the street, loaded them up and drove off. The video on YouTube is pretty rough.

I know of several women that went to Mexico to have tummy tuck surgery. It’s easier to get the procedure done in Mexico than in the US supposedly.

But in a border town? I didn’t even want the chiclets the kids were pushing nonstop when I went to Tijuana.

Chiclet. Chiclet. Chiclet…
Years and years later it still rings in my ears.

This is a sad story and one of the guys said they shouldn’t go because he had a bad feeling. Always go with your first instinct.

The female allegedly was going to get a Tummy Tuck operation. If you have seen the uncut / unblurred video, at least two of them are dead already. Most likely all of them by this point. Cartels don't play.

We burry a lot of people here in this country too.

They make sure nothing major is going on, release them from the hospital or clinic, and have a post op consultation a few days or weeks later (again, depending on what kind of procedure the patient had), then they go home.

I bolded the part I have issue with. Once they go home their doctor is 1000s of miles away in a foreign country…no thanks. Especially for an elective procedure.

So, honest question.
As an American hypothetically wanting to have a tummy tuck or any procedure really, how do you know which doctors are legit/good or not?
Google? Yelp? Tripadvisor?
I've spent months at a time in different countries across the world, and minor medical issues have come up a couple of times. Usually a friend/associate will just take me to the doctor, as there is a language barrier. Point being, I've had excellent care, even in some pretty random places, BUT, I've also had a personal "local" advocate/translator.
Perhaps I've answered my own question, but what if you don't have that friend with local connections and knowledge?

I don't know the answer about the general American population. However, I do know people who live in the Valley. Pretty much everyone in the Valley could easily find out by word of mouth who the "good" docs and dentists are. It's been a few years, but I used to have some work in Mission and Brownsville and it seemed like half the city got their dental care by "jumping the ditch" as they called it. I'm sure it was the same for cosmetic procedures. I think it would be very helpful to have a translator, but I bet many of these docs speak English as that's the customer they are catering to.

ETA: All the folks I knew who talked about this went to Reynosa and not Matamoros. Matamoros has been known for being held by the Cartels for years!

My ex's sister in law got hers done in Mexico about 5 years ago. She hasn't had any issues.

I checked with Blue Cross and hostage negotiations are only covered if it's a non-elective medical procedure.

Too bad our healthcare system is such trash that people have to risk going to Matamoros...

Also, the fentanyl "crisis" is such over-hyped fear-mongering.

I wonder if one Cartel was working with Haitans and another one wanted to sabotage their exchange. Then saw a car full of black people , some with dredlocks and kidnapped them. Then soon after realized they were Americans and left them all at that house.

I know a guy who, every few months, flies himself in his little Cessna or whatever a few hundred miles to Eagle Pass. He crosses over to get his meds and flies back home, same day. It’s not narcotics, just medication for gout and chronic shite and apparently it saves him enough money to be worth spending the whole day doing that.

With the amount of Haitians who have been crossing because of the unrest there it seems likely. May not even been that coordinated, just the cartels taking advantage of the desperation from Haitians moving through there to move their product for them

Look for doctors and dentist who went to school in the US. Many did. They will all speak English.

Most of the nicer places have almost 100% American clientele. More Mexicans speak English than Americans(non hispanic) speak Spanish.

Literally any drug that is powder or a pill has had counterfeit drugs found made with Fentanyl.
I get it's hyped but it's killing people every day.

I priced it and Portugal is the new hot spot for medical and dental tourism.
Flights to Lisbon aren't bad. Madrid plus train even cheaper.

All 4 wisdom teeth pulled by an oral surgeon with overnight hospital stay. $500.
