re: 4 employees leave LSU over state law dispute that required vehicle registration

I also heard that they may have been retirees with Illinois with pensions.
Must be nice to collect 250k and an extra 100k or more a year in mailbox money after working only 20 years.
Moving may have affected this free money from Illinois.
Another thing they could have had second jobs or companies within Illinois that required Illinois residency that paid more than LSU.
They could have been making seven figures a year annually and LSU was just another paycheck that they were probably splitting time between and double dipping.
There is definitely more to this story.

All 4 from Illinois with the same refusal to move? Sounds like an HR employee hired all 4 from the same place honestly.

If you’re hired by LSU you don’t pay state taxes. I can understand requiring employees not paying state taxes to actually live in the state

They were hired by the same person they all worked together in Illinois in the past. Their boss was very familiar with their work. It's not uncommon to hire people you know can familiar with. Just look at football coaches
But these 4 had an agreement where they would work 4 weeks at LSU then one week in Illinois working from home. They we're productive and good employees from what I gather. Their co-workers probably got jealous thinking they were working from home the one week meant vacation and blew the whistle.
However, the license plate thing is odd. I do remember many professors at LSU had families living other states and had out of state plates. But that was over a decade ago.

Damn, I know Louisiana DMVs are bad, but not walk off the job bad.

Sounds like they were just looking for an excuse to leave. I've seen several people move down here from out of State and leave within two years because they hate it. Hell, half of Louisiana has already left for Texas.

The highest paid from the story took the LSU job which paid $75,000 more than her Illinois job. She's the chief technology officer - if a person with that much responsibility has enough time to double dip ... then she's not doing her job.

These four may have had a particular skill set/experience implementing something LSU needed. Likely never meant to be long term. Or it was a lazy HR. I don’t know if JBE wrote up the law specifically to combat this type of thing but its not a bad consequence of it.
